Do you mean the plug in the wall gets hot if so this should never happen has the fuse in the plug been changed?
if not the vacum can not be pulling to much power as the fuse will blow to stop that
Yes the vacuum may be blocked some where but should be easy to find out where as these models come apart with ease

BEWARE you must ALWAYS contact the seller before buy this kind of parts and give up your serial number ofthe vaccuum because of marketing technical correct parts to get as if it was or not modified by knowing the year of build and production type.

Rainbow Series E - we replced the plug with a non polarized plug. the breakers in the house popped off. no burned motor smell

So now you have to check the wires. The reason there is a polarized plug is to prevent the hot wire from being sent to ground. Obviously when you changed the plug, the hot wire was sent to ground. The current draw then burned a wire in half. There is no fuse.

Why the vacuum shut off after 3 minutes and the plug is hot

sounds like the motor maybe clogged and over heating. if you can take apart the vacuum and find the motor. if you have a shop vac use that to clean out the dust and debris. put it back together and try it again. if this doesn't work i would replace the vacuum or get it repaired. i would NOT continue to run the vacuum if the plug gets hot after 3 minutes.

Sebo Vacuum runs intermittently and keeps cutting out and restarting

There could be numerous reasons for this. What I would try in this order to help troubleshoot is this:

1. If you wiggle the power cord near where it inserts into the vacuum cleaner itself, does the vacuum turn on and off constantly? If so, you have a damaged cord or loose connections that need to be fixed.
2. Has the bag been emptied, and if the vacuum has a filter element, has this been cleaned? Vacuums may cutout if they get too hot. A vacuum can overheat if either the bag is full, the filter is blocked, or there are other obstructions to airflow, which cause the motor to work harder and draw more voltage, resulting in more heat. It may have a thermal cutoff which is tripping constantly. Solution is to ensure bag is not full, or less than 3/4 full, any air filters are cleaned and check for any other obstructions in the air flow paths.
3. Ensure the power supply is adequate for the vacuum. Try running it without long extension cords if you have been using those.
4. Check and clean the switch. Sticky or dust contacts on switches can cause variable cycling (cutting out and restarting).

Hope that helps!

I think my maxima got too hot and shut down. Is there a fuse that I may of blown that I can check or is the motor probably fried ? Thanks, Teri

The motor has a shut off when it gets too hot. Wait 30 minutes to an hour to turn it back on. The airway is blocked, causing motor to get hot. Check filter, clean it out, check hose for clog.

Cord Heats Up

You have prob run over the cord and caused a internal short in the cord to be sure plug in but dont turn on the vac see if it gets hot if no then your motor is drawing to much power. check the brush see if it moves easly with your hand and UNPLUGED if it does not turn easly there is string or carpet that needs to be removed. And if thats not it look for a new vac

Vacuum shut off

The motor gets hot when airway is blocked. Check your filter for debris deep in the pleats, clean it out, also check the hose for blockage.

Hot cord

likely after all these years that the motor is starting to go bad and draw more amps thasn it should. a new motor at a vac dealer is your best bet. it was likely made by panasonic, so a new panasonic is your best bet, and less $$$than the kenmore for the same vacuum. sears parts are extremely expensive
