Mine is starting to do the same thing. When I press the power button all of the lights come on for about two seconds and then go off and nothing else happens. Sometimes it take four or five times of pushing the button before it comes on and sometimes it takes alot more. I haven't gotten one yet but a friend told me that the power supply, internal with the fan, could be going bad because if the fan doesn't come on right away it will not allow the computer to boot up because it would burn up. Am going to get one soon. Will let you know if it fixes it.

My problem is similar. I press the power button and it the lights come on as it makes this knocking sound (sounds like the HD) and then it beeps, but nothing happens; the screen stays black. I pulled the battery out, no change. I did the test and it gave a single beep pause then 4 beeps in a row pause then 1 more beep. I pulled the fan out and it was caked with dust. Mine is a Latitude D800. Any suggestions?

Similar issue. D800 was working fine. Shut it down over night. Now nothing. No lights at all.

My d600 had both memory sticks fail over about a year period, when they failed there were similar symptoms. try running on 1 memory stick at a time, or substitute a good one for a test.

Hi. I have the same problem with my Dell D600 laptop. I tried what you suggested and my laptop boots work but doesn't boot into XP. What should I do next or be looking for now?

Remove the battery from the system and try to power on the System with the AC adapter connected. its only to check whether the system is receiving the power .

Also press the Fn key holding it down press the power button and release both the buttons , look for the LED codes and do let me know abt it

SOURCE: d800 will not even boot

Okay, I had that problem with my HP less than a minute ago.

Maybe it is the same problem. See if the battery light comes on. Press the power button again and again if it doesn't start, for some time. It may show the boot screen and hang. Now, the battery must be charged. Shut it down directly and switch the AC off.

Now, switch it on and see if the battery light comes on. If it does, it is the same problem as mine. Now, turn the PC over and remove the battery carefully. There may be switches for that.

Now, plug in the AC and start it without the battery in. If it does, you're done. Now, plug in the battery again.
