Hello capstone08,

Can you tell me which version of BIOS you have on your laptop, AWARD BIOS, AMI BIOS, PHOENIX BIOS, etc? If you have AWARD BIOS, here was a universal password for some versions of Award BIOS .The password is: AWARD_SW

Try THIS link, or THIS ,they may help..

If you know how to open up your laptop and reassemble it, you can try to remove the CMOS battery for about 15-20 mins to reset the password. The CMOS battery looks almost like watch battery...Once your BIOS password is removed, you will need to press the <F2> key during POST (Power On Self Test) to enter the Acer BIOS setup.

if all else fails, you may have to send it to an ACER repair depot, for which they will charge you $100.
Here is a copy of an email from Acer Support:
"Thank you for contacting Acer America. I apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry. In order to have the BIOS or hard disk password removed (This include any biometric security), the notebook will need to come in to our repair depot for password removal. This service is not covered by warranty and unfortunately there is no other recourse to remove a BIOS or HDD password from the notebook. The flat fee for BIOS password removal is $100.00 US dollars plus tax. If it is a BIOS or HDD password and you would like us to service it for you, please contact our telephone technical support line at 1-800-816-2237. Hours of operation are 7am-9pm CST Monday-Friday and 8am-5pm CST Saturday and Sunday, excluding holidays."

Hope that helps...Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.
P.S. Before you assign a rating, please make sure that the issue is resolved or you are satisfied. If not, please post back as to what you did, and/or any other questions you may have, and I will try to assist you as best I can. Please do not assign an ‘Inappropriate’ or ‘Thanks for trying’ rating if your issue is not resolved after the first response itself, as sometimes a bit of to and fro dialogue may be necessary before we can find a fix or an answer to your query.

If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! or Helpful rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

not only do you need to remove the comos battery you have to short out the posts the battery connects to this will remove remaining power stored in any caps connected to the comos circuit after about ten minutes this should clear the comos remove battery unplug charger and remove comos battery the short the comos battery socket. there is still some voltage on the board stored in the capactors this will keep the comos in memory even with out the battery.

Acer TRAVELMATE 2410

Clearing a BIOS password on a laptop takes a little bit more effort than a desktop. If you are comfortable opening the machine then I will post back more detail but if you are concerned about your warranty or are worried about the safety of your motherboard, professionals are in the best option.

I think we have a case of fried PowerSupply, test the voltage output witha multimeter, check the output printed on the brick. if that is OK then U have a Bad Motherboard.
