I downloaded some avatars from the Logitech website. It says "New Video effect installed!" And then when I check in the video effects......its not there. PLEASE HELP!
I had the same problem and i found a way to fix it. Well..... there is really no way to fix it but the problem is that the cameras that all of you have support fun filters only, and nothing else. Thats your problem. I had the same problem and there is no way to fix it but get a new web cam to find out which web cams do support those features go on the logitech quick cam website and look at compatible web cams and the ones at the top are the ones that do support those features. That link is to what cameras support what... Your camera however only allows fun filters... You can also download the fun fileters for this camera here. http://www.logitech.com/en-za/489/3463&typeId=3463&camera=0 that is for the quickcam communicte STX I have the same camera, its good for funfilters and msn, nothing else, if you want avatars, look on the list in the first link, find one that dfoes all three, and go and buy it. I had the same problem when I bought thuis webcam, then I searched itg up, and it gavce me that trouble shooting guid...
1st You download Webcam Driver.
Quickcam
After this install the Webcam driver in the system.
Installation of Webcam Driver
Go to the control panel
Click on the System Icon
Click on the Hardware Tab
Click on the Device Manager s
Select the Unknown Device or printer device where yellow Question Marks sign on it.
Right click on it and uninstall it.
After this go to the top of the device manager and click on scan for hardware changes.
Driver installation Wizard start.
Brows Your Driver from the Hard Disk and click on next.
Driver will be install.
Have you tryed to start the program again?

Im having the same problems. But it doesnt even show the Avatars as a choice for video effects it just has fun filters.
I tried and put in different folders clicked than it said new video effect and i go on video effects and it isnt there
Hy. I'm French and use the Quickcam Communicate STX and have the same problem as you. I can download the new effects from the Logitech website, but when I want use them, they are not there (whereas the system told me the new effect has been installed after the downloading). It's a little bit irritating.
I saw on french sites that other people have the same problem, but no one has the solution.
I hope Logitech will solve the problem soon.
If I have a solution, I will let you know.

nothing is working for me either. even restarted the program. it says that it's not compatible for the communicate stx, but it certainly allowed me to download them from the site. what gives?
