Xp booting very slow on my acer 5740

Download a copy of "windows ultimate boot disk" http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html boot disk" and create a cd. boot from it and create a new admin account.

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

try this disk optimizer and see if it improves

Go to Boot Setup... Search for a Option "SATA Mode".. Normally it is kept in "AHCI", to install XP...change it to "IDE"

Now boot wid a XP CD.

Download the drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure you select the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers you that require and it matches the Windows version that is installed on your laptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: -

1. You should have a winXP bootable installation CD
2. You should enable boot from CD setting in BIOS
3. put your XP cd in to the cd reader
4. Startup the computer
5. Follow the instructions
Format the partitions or
completely drop and recreate partitions then formt

It seems that your computer is loaded with a lot of programs during startup. This means that before windows can formally start, it has to load all those software into memory which can readily translate into slow performance.

To boost your computer performance, you have to decide which software to load at start-up (or boot time) and which should be loaded when necessary only.

To make this easier, I recommend that you download "CCleaner" software, a free software that can manage all these. With CCleaner, you can easily "disable" a software that is configured to load at startup.

These is no risk in unloading a software from startup since you can just open them when you need it. Startup programs comsume a lot of resources making your system to perform slowly.

You did not mention the make and model of your computer which is required for the best help.

To change the bootable device you need to go to bios setting. Depending on your computer make and model the way to go to bios could be different though generally you can go to bios by continuously tapping on F1 or F2 or F9 or F10 or F11 etc The moment you press the power button and you see flashing brand scree like dell, hp etc. start tapping on F1 or F2 or F9 or F10 or F11 only one key at a time.

The best option is to install any version of windows is to use Wintobootic search and download it on a computer. Use any storage device like external hard disk or pen drive. make sure the storage device is completely blank when you make it bootable. insert your windows CD and Open wintobootic, select source and make bootable storage device.
