Craftsman weed trimmer primer bulb is working in reverse

I have a Craftsman 2-cycle weed trimmer (25cc). The fuel lines broke off from deteriation so I replaced all of them. Now when I try to prime the fuel to start, nothing is being suctioned from the tank. In fact, I tested the primer bulb and it appears to be pushing air into the main fuel line (line goes from the carb into the tank with the little filter at the end) and suctioning air from the purge line (line goes from the carb to the tank). It appears that the primer bulb is working in reverse. It starts up no problem when I pour a little fuel directly into the carb, but won't continue to run and doesn't pull any fuel from the tank.

There are 2 lines: One leading from the carb into the tank with a small fuel filter on the end that flops around. The other line (smaller diameter) runs from the carb to the top of the tank. I swapped the lines and it now seems to work. Strange it is not how it was originally as the lines are 2 different sizes (the larger line fits on the smaller nipple, but is not as snug).

It now seems to stall when I tip it to the side.

Sounds like your lines are reversed. If Suzu answer doesn't change anything then, reverse your lines, and see what happens.

Why does the fuel not stay in the primer bulb, when I prime the craftsman weedeater with sim-pul

Fuel lines probably need replacing. Have you been using ethanol? The alcohol eats the fuel lines on most 2 cycle motors up.

Craftsman trimmer 25cc

Diaphrams can be tricky sometimes...seating can be irritating. If carb disassembled and cleaned out...might have to check adjustments. Make sure screw didn't get loose. I had one do that before when governor broke.

Model no.358791072 fuel lines were rotted.I need a diagram of the proper order

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
The fuel line WITHOUT a strainer will go from the tank to the OUTSIDE primber bulb connection then from the primer bulb center connection to the carb. Item 7 this link comes with the diagrams:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Grass-trimmer-weed-wacker-Parts/Model-358791072/0247/1503820/P0808034/00002?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=358791072

There are several you tube videos here on replacing fuel lines:

Something to note... inside the tank there is a fuel filter/strainer. Make sure to replace that fuel line also. The connection from the strainer will connect straight to the carb fuel mainfold connection. The center connection of the primer bulb will go straight to the carb fuel manifold.

My Craftsman 17cc gas weed trimmer wouldn't start.

Hi There, Check the primer bulb for tare or pin holes. Replace it. Check and clean carb jet it maybe plugged with debree. Also check for spark which you didn't say. Replace with correct plug.
Note; Do not use strong cleaners on rubber seals (O rings and gaskets) They dry up and crack.
If needed use a dabble of grease on seals

Which fuel line "port/inlet" on the Walbro wt-380 goes to the fuel tank? It's on a Craftsman 25cc Gas "Weed Wacker" Line Trimmer purchased in 2002. It has Walbro WT-380 carburetor with external primer...

Usually the line with the filter on it that comes from the tank goes to carb. inlet first which is most likely close to the bottom side of the carb.nearest to the engine, then the outlet or return line on the carb.goes to the inlet side of the primer and the outlet side of the primer goes back to the tank. The primer draws fuel through the carb to the primer to the tank if its not? then correct the line connections until it does

Need to know the fuel line routing including the primer bulb.

The smaller diameter line (fuel supply) goes from the fuel tank (w/filter) to the carb body. Look carefully at the 2 nipples on the carb. You can tell one is slightly larger than the other. Another larger line (purge line) goes from carb body to the right nipple on the primer bulb. Another large line (return line) goes from the left nipple of the primer bulb into the fuel tank. completing the purge circuit. This info pertains to the Craftsman 32cc with Zama carb and may work on the 25cc model as well.

Problem with primer bulb

Reverse the line connections at the primer bulb. Look carefully, the long port has the line going to the tank, the short port on the bulb will connect with the fuel line to the carb.

Need gas line routs for a craftsman weed eater

The longer, (and sometimes smaller of the two), fuel line goes from the carburetor to the tank with the fuel filter attached to the end, inside the gas tank. The other line, ( sometimes larger), goes from the primer bulb to just inside the gas tank, about a 1/2 -1 inch inside with coupling attached to the end. Coupling keeps line from pulling out of tank.
