Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezerfrig not getting cold enough. Freezer section - 2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Bottom Ice Maker

is it getting water? if not it could be the water solenoid. if it is and there is ice in the ice maker frozen then it could be the icemaker its self. make sure arm is down in the running position. if water is not frozen solid then the freezer is not cold enough.

We bought our frig exactly 6 years ago (to the date!) and suddenly the frig part is cool, but not cold, while the freezer section stay cold and ice is frozen.

Check your freezer section ! Is the coil frozen over ? If so it may have a burnt out defrost element or a bad defrost timer. When the freezer coil freezes over cold air is restricted to the refrigerator section.

Freezer works fine but fridge isnt getting cold

make sure there isn't food blocking the vents that bring the cold air into the frig from the freezer. and make sure they're open enough.

My refrigerator is not cold enough.

I had this repaired by replacing the motor-fan in the refrigertor behind the air deflector which sends the air from the freezer to frig. hope this helps. The motor was not working.

Kenmore frig ice machine doesn't make cube ice

Normally, the ice "cubes" are crescent shaped. The most likely cause for "crushed" ice is that the ice maker isn't getting enough water on its refill cycle after ejecting the tray. Becuase there isn't enough water, the ice looks crushed...it's actually shattered.

Check the water inlet and chute to the ice maker. Sometimes they freeze and have to be manually defrosted. A hair dryer will do the trick. Also check the water chute and be sure it isn't partially frozen.

Start there...if no luck you could also have a failing water filter or sticky water solenoid valve.

Frig section not cooling and at time appears to stop but freezer is ok

There is one compressor, condenser and evaporator in all refrigerators. The part that makes the cold inside the unit is the evaporator. It's in the freezer, behind a barrier on the back wall. It's a "coil" with many small fins. There is a fan that blows air over the evaporator which makes the air cold. This air comes from the freezer and stays in the freezer. The cold food section (the refrigerator) has a control that opens a hole for air to pass from the freezer to the fridge. This being said...you can rule out the "temperature control" for the fridge.

The sound you hear could be the compressor relay, the evaporator fan or maybe something else. It could be bad, it could be not too bad. (Like a fan blade a bit unbalanced with dust)

OK,,, back to the evaporator. There is a little heater next to the coil that turns on every 8 hours or so to defrost the coil. That's called the "defrost cycle". Makes sense, no? If the defrost timer (common problem) or defrost control board (common problem) go bad, your evaporator coil freezes up, and that's not good for anything in your refrigerator. But it can often keep the freezer section cold. You can easily disassemble the evaporator cover in the back of the freezer and take a look. If it looks like a block of ice, you probably have a defrost issue. An even, thin coat of frost is OK, but lots of ice is a no no.

Freezer not cold enough to freeze items solid

Here are some things you can check yourself. Does it run all the time almost non-stop? if so check the vents under the front of the frig and make sure they are clean. Aslo check the condenser coil (either in back of the frig,or under the frig)Make sure that coil is clean. The condenser coil has to have contact with the outside air in order to release the heat it removed from inside the freezer.
Make sure you frig has plenty of ventilation ( wall too close on sides and back) Hope this helped. If not then you should have a pro look at it.

Freezer on bottom cold but frig is warm

Just additional clues..(general). The defrost timers (on non-electronic) usually located at the bottom (underneath), have a tendency to fail. (One of mine is in the center, one was on the left side) There are usually about 5 wires connected to it. If it fails while defrosting.. the fridge will warm quickly and stop cooling, if it fails in cooling mode, you will have the icing up problem. (other) A squealing noise is usually a fan motor. -also- (Freon issues)..as freon is lost from a small leak, first the freezer will actually get colder, but the refrigerator section may be too warm (I know it sound stupid). When enough is lost the compressor will get hot and the fridge will not cool.
