My playstation 3 jus shut off the other day while playing it i tried to turn it back on an the light turns green an starts blinking then turns red shuts back off

This is an overheating problem. Let it sit for about a day and then try it out.
Make sure it has ATLEAST 4 inches of open space all around it and is not near any heat-making devices, it makes enough heat on its own. Also make sure it's not on carpet.
If it ever starts to immediately shut-off, blink green yellow and then repeating red with 3 beeps, you have the Yellow Light of Death. This is a console killer.

i was playing mw2 yesterday and bam (red light of death) ill prob have to send it to sony but i got the game out follow these steps. 1. turn off at the back. 2. hold your finger on the eject button. 3. turn on again at the back while holding the eject button for a few seconds 4.your playstation should start up and your game should be ejected
Possibly the very common mother board failure. Slight possibility that the power supply is failed, but the capacitors in either component can be tested with capacitor tester and service manual to test for the faulty component.
It happened with my PS3 too, What I did, I sent to Sony and then They sent me a new one. If your PS3 is still in warranty, you should send to Sony Here's a LINK for online service request
Alot of the playstation 3 systems are having problems overheating. this would be the cause of the system shutting off. not to much u can do unless u know how to replace the fan or if you bought the warranty. other then that you would have to take it to get fixed or buy a new one. hope this helps sorry if it dont
