I agree with mr cb that cobra radios are the primary work horse for otr drivers. when it comes to antennas that will be an opinion that is totally up to you but some good recommendations would be a Wilson trucker type of antenna but there are others that will work as well. How well any antenna works for the most part depends on where you mount it,resonance (tuning) and radiation efficiency. The standard that all antennas are measured against is the almighty whip 1/4 wave long @ 102" made of stainless steel and will handle 10,000 watts of power all day every day but in your case there is a catch 22 this type of antenna is not recommended due to the fact that it is 8' 7,1/4" long and i am under the impression that this antenna needs to fit a big rig truck. The situation you are faced with on height limits the wilson 5k or 2k with a good tune would be the best choices for you in my humble opinion. hope this helps.

Hello, My name is John, Hope I can assist you...The light that comes on when you key the mike is a RF indicator, meaning you have RF power, meaning your unit is fine for talking if it is the TX light, some lights will blink as you talk. Have your SWR checked at a CB shack, or Radio Shack, etc. Enjoy.Cobras are great radios.....Hope this was helpful........

When i key in both green lights turn red. is this normal ?

One of the lights is marked RX/TX. This light normally turns red when you press the mike key. The other light indicates a bad SWR if internal circuits are properly aligned. If someone has turned the pot which sets the level at which the light comes on, it may come on when you press the mike key. Check your SWR with an external meter to see if you have problems in the antenna system. The way I set this light in my shop is to put a 150 ohm resistor on the antenna connector and set the control so that the ANT light just comes on.

I have a cobra 29 ltd classic and the swr light comes on during key up of the mike and i have tried another antenn and it does the same thing with it now i have the same radio in my truck and it is fine...

I have you had the radio peaked? If so this could cause that problem there is a can in the back of the radio that can turn it off. But if you haven't then get your SWR checked.

You got your radio peaked? Most likely, however, the pot for the antenna warning indicator is VR6. I always check that after peaking a radio.

Cobra 29 ltd classic ant light

Your SWR is probably NOT fine. You need to use an external meter if you have had work done to the radio. Especially if you have had a swing mod done to the radio. When you do this, the dead key of the radio is lower then the calibration knob on the radio can adjust for. It will always come up lower then it actually is.

Your radio might have been fine before the work was done on it because it was putting out very little power. Now you are most likely putting out 50 watts or more. Big jump from 4 watts.

When your raise the power in a radio, you will notice more when the antenna is not properly tuned.

In most cases with a stock CB, even when the antenna is not even near tuned, you will get a reading less then 1.5 anyway.

the more power you put out, the more important it is to have a good match.

But an external SWR meter, and check it. be careful if the ANT light is on.

You might also want to check your coax, connections to it, and your antenna for anything wrong.

ANT indicator

Something in your antenna setup is causing high SWR reflected back into the radio. Antenna could be ungrounded? Have you tuned that antenna? Any part of the coax broken or pinched in a door? Where is he antenna located on the vehicle? Are you parked under or near a metal building? All of these things can cause high SWR reflect. Let me know if you need help in tuning your antenna or getting it set up.
