Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here are some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.
My camera turns on and the lens part extends out, but the screen is totally blank. When I switch it to view previous photos, it works fine..I just have to turn it "off" and the pictures come up..But if I switch it to take a picture, it goes completely dark again...it's almost three years old and has no damage done to it...
my camera tells me to change batterys when i try to take a foto.
I can lock at previus taken fotos but when i try to take a new foto the display is black and the lins donĀ“t mov. The batterys are new.
I have the same problem. My A510 quit taking pictures suddenly. I'd put new batteries in it and immediatley it would say "Change the batteries."
The lens was stuck as well.
I purchased a new Canon SX110 IS......while I'm waiting for it to come in the mailI I'm charging batteries....just for randomness I put the rechargeables in the A510...it powers up, takes pictures, everythings great....except that I just spent $248 for an SX110 kit!!!
i have a 2005 canon powershot a510. the camera turns on and i can see the display settings on the screen, but the screen is black with no images...i can press the button to take the photo looking through the viewfinder but when i review it in playback mode it's a black screen, tho i can view the photos taken the day before the black screen problem happened. i just put in freshly charged batteries (properly, i checked several times!) and have an almost full sd card in it. is this fixable or do i need to buy a new camera?
