Just bought a serger profinish. Have threaded it correctly but the machine won't run. Spent several hours trying to see what was wrong. Checked with the book and rethreaded it and still will not sew. It is plugged in correctly and the motor is running but does not feed or move the needle.

Ensure the front door is fully closed, some machines have a safety switch to protect user.

If this is a new machine, ask the dealer where you bought it for advice, phone to arrange a demo with them, even a lesson might be worth considering......if there is an issue with the machine, they will need to assist under their warrantee obligations.

It is very rare, but some machines will slip past quality control, after all 10% of things are made on Monday morning !!

I have a Tiny Serger. The thread keeps coming out of the needle when I try to sew so it is not making the chain. What am I doing wrong?

The order that you thread the machine in is also important. Thread the loopers (things underneath) first, thread the needle last.

you might have the serger checked for a timing problem
Serger thread breaks

1. Is the serger threaded correctly?

2. Is the needles inserted correctly?

3. Is one of the needles bent or damaged?

4. Is the tension adjusted too tightly?

5. Is the tension adjusted to accommodate thickness of thread being used?

6. Are you using inferior quality thread?

7. Is the thread feeding of the cone/spool freely?

8. Is the needle size correct for the type of fabric being used?

9. Are the needles being used the correct one for the serger?

10. If all of the above suggestions don't help then the serger needs to be checked for a timing problem at a sewing machine repair shop.

My brothers serger is skipping stitches

Many problems can cause a serger to skip. Start with the correct new needles and good quality thread. Skips can be tension a clearance or timing issue or the amount of thread pulled out by the thread guides. This is not something most consumers can repair. Even with the service manuals they can be difficult. I have spent thousands of hours working on sergers.and skipping at high speed can be difficult to solve. Some brands are more user friendly to service. This like will show some of the common settings and tools needed for a serger service.

I have re-threaded, changed needles, adjusted the differential and cutting width but cannot sew a single seam without the stitches skipping, sometimes several in a row and sometimes only one.

2. Is the needle inserted correctly into the needle holder--check needle

3. Is the Serger threaded correctly--rethread

5. are the needles the correct ones for the serger
6. Possible timing problem--need to be checked at a sewing machine shop

TRYING TO THREAD THE 634d I DON'T HAVE A MANUAL I HAVE ORDERED ONE DO YOU HAVE A DIAGRAM OR ANYTHING THAT WILL HELP ME PLEASE!

I have this serger, also. A friend (who knows sergers) and I spent 2 hours today trying to get the lower looper threaded--with no success! There is a diagram in the door of my machine, but it is still very confusing! I'm taking mine to the shop on Monday and have them thread it and show me how to do it!

Is there any other thing I can do to stop the thread from the upper looper from breaking after about 30cms of sewing. there is no sign of it being about to break. I have changed thread, needles and...

it could be due to one or more of the following

  • Threading is not correct.
check that bobin is not snagging thread,
remove bobin and remove any dust and fluff from bobin area
  • Needle is wrong size.
  • Needle has been inserted wrong.
  • Needle and thread does not match.
  • Starting to stitch too fast.
  • Thread take-up lever has not been threaded.
  • Correctly thread machine.
  • Replace needle with correct size.
  • Properly insert needle.
  • Start machine at a medium speed.
  • Check threading order.

I hope this was helpful

Problems threading a Europro serger

Probably the needle hit one of the loopers and left a burr on it that is catching the thread. Run your finger nail acroos the edges of the loopers. If you find a burr it can be polished off using very, very fine crocus paper from a hardware store.
Or the needle hit a the upper looper and knocked it slightly out of position.
After you have it threaded (correctly) turn it slow by hand and watch the loopers very closely. You will probably see what is happening.
