Hi

Try one or more of these solutions:

  • Secure the roll paper you are not using with the roll paper belt when two roll paper spindles are installed. See Using the roll paper belt.
  • Before loading paper and guiding it through the paper insertion slot, make sure the roll paper is wound up firmly. Position the bottom edge of the paper straightly and in line with the rows of punch holes on the printer.
  • Make sure the paper is not folded or wrinkled.
  • Make sure printing occurs within the operational temperature range.
  • Make sure the paper is not damp.
  • Make sure the paper is not too thick or too thin. See Paper.
  • Make sure no foreign objects are inside the printer.
  • For Windows, check the Media Type setting in the Main Menu. Make sure it is correct for the paper you are using.
For Macintosh, check the Media Type setting in the Print dialog box. Make sure it is correct for the paper you are using.
  • Make sure that the platen gap setting matches your paper. You can change the platen gap setting in the Printer Setting menu of the SelecType mode. See SelecType Settings.
  • For paper other than EPSON's, check the paper type selected in the Paper Configuration menu of the SelecType mode. See Setting the paper thickness.

THERE IS A HIGH PITCHED NOISE AND BOTH THE PAGE AND PRINTER LIGHTS ARE FLASHING RED. THE PRINTER IS NOT RESPONDING TO ANY COMMANDS, EVEN NOZZLE CHECK AND HEAD CLEANING.

Check for a paper jam as this is the #1 cause of high pitched noises in this model. If there is no paper jam then replace the ink cartridges with new ones as it will not respond if ink is empty. If none of this fixes the problem then you will need an epson repair center as the internal parts are not user serviceable. Hope this helps.

Paper jam epson c84

If you are sure that no scraps of paper (or other object) is jamming the paper feed path, you will need to dismantle the printer to investigate further. This is really a job for a technician; however, if you want to have a try yourself, you can download the service manual from here:

http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/12748/Epson_C64%20and%20C84.html

Also, post a new comment to this effect since I can provide useful extra info on getting these difficult machines apart.

I just replaced all 4 ink cartridges on my epson stylus c84 printer. The 2 left buttons on the printer are flashing and it will not print. I have tried turning it off and then on but it still won't print....

See the on-line handbook

http://support.epson-europe.com/onlineguides/en/sc84/index.htm

and look in Problem Solver, Diagnosing the Problem, Error indicators. If the two lights are flashing together, you have a paper jam. If this is the case, you should be able to pull the paper out from the front or top. If the lights are flashing together, and you can't see any paper jamming the printer, post a new comment to this effect for more help.

If the lights are flashing alternately (Unknown printer error), it usually means the Waste Ink Pads in your printer are saturated with ink and the waste ink "protection" counter has exceeded its limit. You can restore your printer to a working condition immediately by using the SSC utility - download from

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

and use it to reset the Protection Counter. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation. However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you should change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer.

If you decide to have a go at replacing the ink pads yourself, report back with a new comment and I will provide further help.

Not printing

If you've just bought a C84 today then you've been sold a second (or even third) hand unit which is clogged solid.

To resolve this you're going to need to clean the printheads which is something I've described here

It's a different printer but the same process applies.

Hope that helps.

Paper Jam C84

Was the printer feeding multiple sheets at the same time, so that the sheer thickness of the wad caused the jam? If so, look into the slot where you load paper (this is called the automatic sheet feeder or ASF). You should see a small roller with a rubber coating. This is what pulls the sheets into the printer. Put one sheet of paper into the ASF and do a print. The Windows test print facility is convenient for this: start-control panel-printer and faxes, then right click your printer icon and select properties, then test print). If this works OK, put two pages into the ASF, then three etc. Observe what happens. If at some point more than one page is pulled in, it infers that the ASF is not working properly, in which case you will need to consult a technician (or have a go yourself at dismantling the printer). If the one-two-three-four etc page test doesn't produce a multiple feed, all it probably means, is that static electricity is holding the sheets tightly together. Make sure when you put a wad of paper into the ASF it has been fanned.

Report back on what you find, or if you have any queries on the above.

Epson stylus c84 inkjet printer

I don't know if this will help but your problem sounds like one I had with a C82 model. On the right side of the printer below where the print head rests is a small plastic suction tube. This tube can become disconnected and will prevent the printer from printing. Check to see if this is your problem. In the picture the red circle shows where the tube connects and the yellow shows the tube.

Epson C82 & C84 Printers will not laydown any ink!

Sorry but It uses Durabrite ink which tends to turn into hard gel if not printed at least once a week. Its less painful and expensive to just throw the printer out and buy a new one. I recommend the canon PIXMA ip3500. It lets you remove the printhead for cleaning unlike the Epson. If you want to try your luck at unclogging the printer heres a link to a unclogging kit but be warned that results are not guaranteed!

http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/Epson/K89

The C82 in addition to clogging also has a problem where the waste ink hose which is supposed to remove excess ink (so the printer dosent get clogged) gets disconnected and so the printer clogs even more. The C84 had this glitch fixed but alot of good that did!

Thanks for reading!

Ink and paper lights flashing red and I cannot print

No body wants to take it to repairs, we all hate spending money if it can be avoideded. Do't fret. First, i would bet you have a paper jam that you have missed. This would stop the carriage and head cleaning. Open up the cover as if replacing ink. Get a torch and really thoroughly check for tiny paper jams or ujo's(unidentified jamming objects)check where paper goes too. Now close cover turn off, unplug, all cables, replug, turn on, try printing now. Post back if no good. Cheers lilacgerry
