You need to update your video driver. 16 bit is 98's default driver. Go to control panel, select add new hardware, click "show me a list of drivers". select "display". It will bring up a list of dispay drivers. You may at this point experiment with different drivers till you find the one that works on your pc. You want 256 colors or better. I used cirrus logic 5464 on my 98se. After selecting driver, follow instructions on installing. When you find one that works, set it to 32 bit high color. Like I said, you may have to experiment with the drivers till you find one that works. NOTE: if you happen to download one that shuts your screen down, just reboot in safe mode and remove driver and start over with a different driver. Hope this helps.

You need to install the Video driver for your graphics card to get full use of your display card with full feature.

  • There might be a motherboard CD shipped with your PC, it might include driver for your all devices.
  • Just put that CD and install the required drivers.
  • If you don't have any CD like that, then you should go to your manufacturer's site and make download driver for your device for Windows 98.

Thanks
Iqbal

3Com Megahertz 3CXEM566 B 10 Mbps LAN+56K Modem PC Card Driver For Windows 98SE

Try this link...I just confirmed that it does exist.
If you have any issues, Try using a Microsoft or a 3Com universal driver.

Last but not least, simply go on eBay for a vintage LAN card...that includes a driver CD that runs on Windows 98SE.
If you need further assistance, just reply after trying those possibilities.
I'm "A+" Industry Certified PC Repair Tech. If you can't find one in a box with driver disc, maybe I have some LAN cards.
Does this need an ISA or PCI slot?

WD Element 1 TB on Windows 98SE system

You can NOT access 1TB under Win 98SE, It is unable to "Address" that much memory, it is simply mathematically impossible. You have to upgrade to a system that CAN address that much memory, such as a 32 Bit system. better still a 64 bit system.

How can i upgrade my 16-color to 32-color

Are you referring to color scheme? If so, you should be able to right-click on an empty space on the computer desktop, choose Properties from the menu that appears. Then, in Windows XP, choose the Settings Tab. You should see a drop down menu on the lower right titled Color quality. In the drop down menu you can choose 16 bit, and should have a selection for 32 bit. Select the 32 bit, click Apply. Then the screen should change to that setting and ask if you want to keep those settings. Select OK and you should be good.

you can this in display properties on desktop you can set it to 16 or 32 bit. But there may be another problem ie., if you have not installed the display driver software if it is not packed with your windows. install the driver from the driver cd provided when you bought the pc.
