When I plugged in my belgian waffle maker, it went "flash! Pop!" & that was that. I unplugged it immediately of course. I love this thing. I don't have $ enough to go buy a new one (this was a very good brand in its day). I am assuming it's an electrical short or something. Can it be repaired & what will it cost me? I'm a 63 yr old female & can wield a screwdriver & cut wire, but that's about it. Cincinnati, OH
It's a Vitantonio Premier Belgian Waffle Maker - Model 1550 (your product line won't accept this)
EBay has a few of these for sale at the moment (July 27th, 2008) - I am not sure if this link will work but it worked for me from another website:

We are missing our manual and were looking online for that. If you get one and it comes with a manual, perhaps you could scan it and upload it? I would be glad to host it on my website!
Good luck! We love ours! -=Drew
These appliances are not easy to work on, and they take much more than simple tools. There are many safety issues with these. These can be dangerous to operate if they are not serviced properly.
For a start, most likely the element is shorted out. This would mean a new element, a new thermo fuse, and possibly the thermostat may be damaged. This has to be properly checked.
As for doing wiring in these appliances, depending on the design, there are crip connectors, and some of the parts are electro welded (not soldered).
Personaly, I would start shopping for a new unit when considering the cost of service on these. If you are determined to service the unit you can take it to an appliance specialist.

Yeah--I found this out the hard way :)
I sent it to my son (who is something of a mechanical genius) & he broke it permanently... :) So, yes, I'm shopping for a new one. Too bad tho. There's nothing on the market like this one & I loved it!
I can't even find used ones!
Thank you - you were right about the complexity)
