My murray push lawn mower won't start

It worked fine a couple days ago, know it won't even try to start. I have yanked on it until my arm is sore.

Did it die right after a refueling? You might have water in your fuel can.
Which now is probably in your mower.

Drain out all the fuel *(remove the carb bowl too) Get some fresh gas *(dump your can of fuel out into a secondary container so you can look for water in it. If it has water on the bottom...you should dispose of it wherever you dispose of your mowers waste oil.

You should be sure you have spark. Which means you need to remove the spark plug from the head and with the boot still attached dangle it on the metal head and give it a pull and look for sparks. If you have no spark you might need a new plug or coil. Thats really all you can do for weak or no spark. Be sure the plug is clean and free of oil/gas contamination as that may have fouled the plug.

Good luck and be careful!

Model 917.370410 won't start

Sounds to me like this model is a POS. I also have this same model, purchased last August have used only 5 or 6 times , has the same symptoms: hard pull, puff of smoke, won't run , etc. Even brought this to an authorized dealer to get it to run, but then it only ran a couple more times, dead again. Does anyone know of any recalls fro this lemon? I can appreciate everyone troubleshooting , but you shouldn't have to tear apart a 5 month old lawnmower which will only result in your warranty being voided.

My lawnmower won,t start

Three things I know to check. 1. check for broken kill switch wire or loose connection on same wire. 2. check for loose or corroded wires on switch. 3.If this unit has a stator and mag polish the surfaces of both and check clearances.

When yanking on the pull cord to start engine

Im guessing that you have started it before, so I guess , check that its not flooding ,pull air filter out see If you can see heaps of fuel in the bottom hole ,if you do take spark plug out pull cord a few times without holding start cable or you will catch on fire replace spark plug try starting ,no start still flooding take it to a lawn mower place ,float may have a hole in it , if not flooding, on the bottom of the cardy one brass nut , four holes find them clear then, start also a brass pipe going into the center of the carby is probable blocked

I have a Murray 6.0 hp 20 inch push lawn mower. How much oil do I put in when changing oil.

If there is a dip stick add some oil check the level till you get to the full mark. It should take a little more than a quart. If there is no dip stick then there is an oil fill plug down low on the engine. Fill slowly until the oil reaches the threads in the engine housing (almost overflowing). Be sure to replace the plug or you will have oil everywhere when you start it.

Don't just dump the oil in, check the level as you go!

I need a manual for a Murray self propelled lawn mower Model No. 20905X8C. When I went on the Murray website, I had to have the manual to look up the part numbers. This particular manual is not on-line so...

You need a rear wheel part# 71133MA. A place to look up this model would be at www.precisionope.com. Look up OEM parts section, in may be under Murray or Briggs & Stratton. Briggs bought out Murray out several years ago.
Hope that helps.

Pull rope seems to be locked up...won't pull

make sure you can turn the blade by hand, make sure grass isn't stopping the blade after that make sure the break cable isn't bad, sometime's the cable don't disengage the break from the flywheel. Hope this works.
