One note is the power plug going into the radio appears to be atypical in polarity. The center appears to be negative ( - ) instead of positive ( + ).

Yes you can use any 6 volt DC for your radio but the most IMPORTANT thing to remember is to connect the terminals in the correct direcction. First of all you can solder a red wire from the positve terminal of the battery and a black wire from the negative terminal of the battery. This must be connected to the source of your 6 volt battery. You can buy a good DC jack socket female to be fitted into the vacant spot of your radio and use a male jack to supply the DC. Only be carefully to see the polarity. To avoid any reversing of polarity use can even connect a diode in the forwarrd bias towards the positve terminal. This will prevent any wrong connection of polarity to damage your set. Helpful? Good day

I want to buy a 6 volt DC for my ATS 505 how many MA's should I get?

It just need 5 watts of power. So with 6 volt DC input, you will need at least = 5/6 amp ( says 1 A).
However You can use a bit higher amperage of your power adaptor to get better performance.

I want to add an external antenna, is this product available to be purchased, if so from what stores and approx. how much will it cost. My Radio is a Sangean ATS 808A. Also, is a 220 Volt power pack...

Hello eab.... I would begin by looking at Radio Shack. Take the radio in with you. The prices cover a wide price range depending on the range and quality. Joe

Sangean ATS 803A

Don't be mis-led by the working display. I had the "no power" problem with a working display too. I measured the voltage of the two AA batteries. One was 1.33 volts and the other was only 0.76 volts. Replaced the weak AA and everything worked. I suspect the 'enable' circuitry fails around/below 2.1v.

Sangean ATS 808A-replacement aerial antenna

The antenna should be available from Sangean, or C.Crane.

To replace the entire antenna, about 6 screws from the back must be removed, and the back also removed.
Or you could replace it at the antenna's "elbow". However, this is almost impossible to do without loosing the 2 tiny washers. If you do loose the washers, the antenna will work, but will be loose, and not stand up and support itself.

Sangean ATS 606 A Portable Radio

Remove the battery compartment door and the batteries. There should be a small hole marked "reset" under the upper battery cradle. Press (gently...until it clicks) and hold for 5 seconds. Replace batteries and try again.

ATS 505 Power Supply Problem

Make sure no other buttons are held down when powering up, although you usually see a clock on the display if there is power but the unit is locked up for another reason. The fact that you've tried batteries and you've tried the PSU suggests to me that there is some other problem with the radio, it could be as simple as a dry joint, but without experiencing the same problem myself it's not possible to suggest anything further.
