I have recently brought a sega game gear off ebay, the sound is very faint and can be heard through headphones or with your ear next to the speaker. Can this be fixed?
Also the screen works but have to hold it flat, when you tilt the console towards you the screen looks dark and cannot be seen properly, can this also be fixed? its not a big problem just have to hold the console at a unusual angle.

Hi Themist, what you describe seems like a system in a real bad shape, there is little than can be done on a 20+ years old portable system. Sadly, the batteries are zapped very fast, that was part of the problem the GG was not a success. It needs to be pluged to an AC Adapter to really be enjoyed. The screen issues are not possible to fix, unless you get a replacement one, and the audio and brightness issues, might be an hardware related. Sorry to say it, but there is not much you can do with your Game Gear.
If you are handy with a 15 watt solderin iron, and soldering small parts you can do the job. For about $10 in parts, you can replace the sound capacitors, and the video caps.WIthout explaining here, these are common problems. See the Youtube videos for further explanation of your problem.
Good luck. [br]
it sounds like the game gear is breaking down. i wouldn't bother repairing it as i have owned one previously and the repairman said it would cost me £30 - £40 to have it repaired and my game gear had the same problems as yours. you can replace it as there are loads of game gears to choose from on ebay.co.uk - just type game gear on search in all categories and a huge list comes up. i bought one from there a few days ago and it cost me £8.49 and that included 4 games! i hope this helps.
might need a new headphone jack due to rough handling or a new volume pot. try plugging in headphones and wriggling them gently to see if you get sound, if that does not work try fiddling the volume knob, whichever gives a burst of sound will show you which needs to be replaced.
try adjusting the brightness knob on the system. i once had that same problem with mine. The ccfl tube (the main battery drain problem in most portables) might be burnt out or something. You can replace it with LED's i think.
