Problem with yahoo messenger

Yahoo! discovered that this error occurs on systems that do not have the latest browser and scripting components provided through Microsoft software updates.

To resolve this issue, please make sure you have the following applications installed:

Sun Microsystems Java. http://www.java.com/en/
Adobe Flash Player version 9 or greater. http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
Adobe Shock-wave Player. http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download
Windows Scripting Package. --http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/re...
Look for "Windows Script 5.7" for your Operating System and follow the instructions for installing this file.

You should also visit Windows Update http://www.windowsupdate.com , a Microsoft site that checks your computer for updates and patches to correct related to your operating system and web browser components.

Once you know you have this support software installed - you can use an update checker to run a routine check on the software for updates

Finally - check your IE 8 settings
Click "Tools"
Click "Internet Options."
Click "Security" tab.
Click "Custom Level" button.
Scroll down to "Script ActiveX.controls marked safe for scripting"- enable
Scroll down to "Scripting - Active scripting" - enable
Scroll down to "Scripting of Java applets" - enable
Click OK
Click OK
Restart your computer.

Try re install YM

This is plug-ins problem, reinstall the program, it'll definitely fix it. I had the same problem and have also solved the same problem for several people. Good luck.

Are you using the Windows Blinds program? This is a Windows OS skinning program, and there is a conflict between it and yahoo messenger. There is a simple fix for this. Exit Yahoo Messenger by right clicking Yahoo icon by your clock and choosing Exit. Then right click the Yahoo Messenger shortcut on your desktop and choose Properties. Click the Compatibility Tab, and check the box that says Disable Visual Themes. Click OK. Restart Yahoo Messenger.
If the above does not apply to you then be sure to exit yahoo messenger first, by right clicking the yahoo icon by your clock and choosing exit, before you do the following steps:First, clear out your yahoo cache. My Computer/ C: drive/Program Files/Yahoo/Messenger/Cache. You can delete everything in the cache folder. I am not sure of the path for Windows Vista.
Next thing to try is to change your connection settings. Go to top of YM and click on Messenger and then Preferences. Go to the Connections page and try these options, no proxies or no network detection (try one than the other). Click OK after choosing one. Yahoo Messenger will need to close to change the settings.
Do you have the latest Adobe Flash Player installed? The latest version is 10.0.22.87. If you do update this also you can uncheck the box for Google toolbar that is on the download page, it is totally optional. After the installation box pops up, close all browser windows before installing. Important: Yahoo Messenger relies on Internet Explorer so be sure that when you update Adobe Flash Player that you do it in Internet Explorer. If you also use Firefox you will also eventually want to run this same page in Firefox and check your Adobe Flash Player version but the one that matters for Yahoo is Internet Explorer.
Do you have the latest Sun Java? The latest version is Version 6 Update 14.After you install the newest sun java uninstall the old ones through add/remove programs. 1. Uninstall your Yahoo Messenger
2. After uninstall completed go to My Computer - Program Files and delete Yahoo folder.
3. Install again Yahoo Messenger from www.yahoo.com
4. Install latest adobe Flash player from www.adobe.com
5. Install latest JRE version from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
6. In a command prompt window type command: del %temp%\*.* /f /s /q
7. Restart your computer.

After all of this if your problem continues check for operating system errors.

With you just installing a new OS like XP you probably have to update the Adobe Flash Player software and also your Java software too.
