Remove all existing printer installations (delete printer instance from installed printers list). Depending on Windows 7 version, download the Vista x64 or Vista 32 drivers from: Select software and drivers.
Download the Print Driver Package, not the Plug and Play Package.
Ensure that the printer USB is NOT CONNECTED. Run the driver installation program, making note of the folder to which it installs the files.
Plug in printer USB Windows 7 will detect the printer but will prompt that the printer was not installed successfully. Do not attempt searching for drivers at this point.
Go to “Devices and Printers” , there you will find the HP 1020 newly installed. Right click on it, and select properties.
Click General tab, click “Make changes”, find again "properties" and "Update driver".
Click update drivers, then select “Browse my computer” and navigate to the driver installation folder that you have previously written down. Click OK to install drivers.

My i9900 canon has gone spontaneously from working fine to stubbornly "offline". I decided just to delete and reinstall it, but can't find the CD or its equivalent online. Any help please?

What OS do you have? Please add the update version for Windows 10. The drivers are still available from Canon here: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/support-inkjet-printer/i-series/i9900?tab=drivers_downloads for supported OS versions. It looks like the printer used Windows Update for to install most of the drivers under Windows 7. There is an optional update for the driver on the site but it doesn't work unless Windows Update installed the basic driver. The Canon didn't officially support the printer for any OS after Windows 7.

The Windows 7 driver worked under 8 (8.1) and some versions of Windows 10 for a while. (Under Windows 8, the ZoomBrowser software didn't work.) Then Microsoft became strict about not allowing unsigned drivers to install. The easiest solution is to find an old Windows 7 computer to connect to the printer. Alternatively, get an unused install license and build a virtual machine to connect to the printer. Note: recent cumulative updates for Windows 10 have caused issues with USB printers.

If you are using Windows 8 or 8.1, try connecting the printer via the USB port with the machine off. The restart the computer; make sure that the Windows Update is set to find updates for other devices (not just Windows). If you are using the printer over a network, some found using the Canon ProMark 9000 series drivers worked.

I hope these ideas help. I wish that I had better news for you about Canon support.

(Building a virtual machine OS depends on your CPU allowing virtualization and free memory. You also need the Windows Pro or Enterprise versions of the OS for Hyper-V (Windows 10) or the Windows 8 VM equivalent. Third-party tools for creating a virtual machine may work on the home edition.)

Hi, I have an old (1995) but absolutely perfect HP Deskwriter 600 Printer which was initially used for a Mac OS 7.0 computer. At that time printers according to Mac policy were ready made for use of only...

HP's site shows driver downloads for OS 8, OS 9 and Windows XP 64-bit. Unless the Windows driver will work with Windows 7 (unlikely) or Windows 7 already supports it, you're going to have to replace your old Deskwriter. There isn't anything you can do otherwise.

This is the same kind of problem many people faced when XP was new. Since the operating system was so different, much older software and hardware was no longer compatible. Some hardware makers came out with updated drivers, but others didn't. Either their hardware wouldn't work at all with the new OS or they figured that it wasn't worth the time for a low-cost item (especially true for printers).

Cannot install drivers for Canon MF5550 on Windows 7 64 bit O.S.

Incompatible types and version of printer drivers when installed in Windows 7 can cause issues which might hinder the installation process thereby causing the installed drivers to become corrupt. The users of Windows 7 are therefore advised to verify the version and type of printer drivers before the installation and install only those drivers that are fully compatible with the Windows OS on the system to avoid these kinds of issues.

uninstall the printer, and go to HP.com, download the install program for your printer and OS, and follow install directions exactly, do not plug and play.

Go on HP web site and look for the driver that will work with windows 7 or get a new printer that says it works with the new windows 7 or downgrade back to an OS you know that works with your printer.

Where can I find a driver for the HL-1250 Laser Printer to install in Windows 7

Use the XP/2000 driver on Windows 7 32bit, it doesn't work with the 64bit OS. If you have the 64bit OS, you can try and install the driver in compatibility mode.
