Do you live in an apartment? Could be a neighbors remote interfearing with your TV.

Going to need an original remote for this and NOT a universal.

Google the model number for an original remote.

Do a hard reset to this TV, and then check. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

Service mode entry, adjust and exit procedure to many popular brand TVs are given. Never forget to exit the service mode, after all adjustments have been done.

I have the same problem. Hopefully someone can tell me what is wrong or I will have to junk it for parts.

Try updating the firmware to version 1.05 from this website http://support.toshiba.ca/support/ceg/downloads/all/view.asp?docid=D000020

Unplug it, press and hold the power button down for 30 seconds, plug it back in and turn it on.

That I don't think you can do - the CC is fed by the digital tuner, while the subtitles are fed by the DVD player.

FROM THE TOSHIBA MENU, (FIRST MAKE SURE YOU ARE SET TO
THE HDMI PORT THAT THE XBOX IS PLUGGED INTO) THEN SELECT
HDMI SETTINGS, UNPLUG HDMI CABLE FROM THE TOSHIBA TV (LCD
FLAT, MINE IS A 42") WAIT FOR THE SETTINGS TO HIGHLIGHT OR NOT
BE GRAYED OUT, THEN TURN OFF THE THREE SETTINGS, FOR COLOR
AND LIP-SYNC., SCROLL DOWN AND PRESS THE RESET BUTTON,
WAIT FOR MESSAGE TO APPEAR. TURN OFF THE TV AND PLUG IN THE XBOX.
TURN EVERY THING BACK ON. SEE IF IT WORKS.
NOT ALL CABLES ARE THE SAME AND NOT ALL TVS ARE THE SAME.
READ THE TV OWNERS MANUAL CAREFULLY, (RTFM), I FOUND A NOTE ABOUT
THESE SETTING ON THE SPECIFICATIONS PAGE.
