Just acquired one of these palm sanders and it was in need of having the platen replaced. I ran into the same issue. It is just attached very snug to the hollow shaft from the motor. Try gently prying with your fingertips around all edges going in a circular pattern. You will gradually start to loosen the platen and it'll pop off. Worked for me...

I dont think that you are missing anything, but you might want to go to Dewaltservicenet.com and download a breakdown for this tool. it might be that the platen is stuck and needs some "gentle" persuassion to remove.

Can the platen on DW411 be replaced

Yes it can be replaced. If you go to www.ereplacementparts.com, you can look up your sander and find the parts you need. You can buy the parts there or get the part numbers and search the web for pricing.

Where to apply grease

There are no parts in your sander to grease. The only place there is grease is in the three sealed bearings on the armature and in the platen. Everything should be clean and dry inside the sander to make it less likely for sawdust to stick inside the tool. Blow everything out and replace the bearings if they are not turning freely and smoothly.

I have a MS1000 Black and Decker Cyclone round sander..looking for replacement sanding disc

Hello, W/D here.
Most sanding disc types are available at the larger box hardware stores. They are (sometimes) generic or exact replacements.
I use the "Gator" brand on my B7D sander, and the discs work just fine.
Best regards, --W/D--

I need to remove the fan on my black and decker pad sander but theres no way to clamp the armature to unscrew the fan

Why would you want to remove the fan? There is a good chance that the fan is molded to the shaft and can not come off.

Cannot disassemble Milwaukee 6016 to replace brushes

exactly what screws did you remove. you have to remove the bottom platen first (pad) then remove the housing screws. you need to remove the fan also and then might need to apply some pressure to split the housing halves.
