My MAGIC CHEF MCO153uw stopped working. It heats

My MAGIC CHEF MCO153uw stopped working. It heats up and then stops and the entire unit goes totally off no power nothing. Then it turns on by itself a while later. It will heat up for 2 or three minutes with no turning of the plate. the plate turning is totally not working. Is it time to get a new one?
Thanks
Katharine

This sounds like a thermal protector is turning the microwave off. If I were to hazard a guess, it would be the magnetron (produces the microwaves) is overheating causing the shutdown. If the fan was not running it would create the same condition by causing the magnetron to overheat.

SOURCE: micro ios totally black . Had to reset the breaker ; is that a clue/

It has a fuse inside. Check the door switches while you're in there. The one in series with the fuse can weld in the "on" condition and blow the fuse and/or the circuit breaker.

SOURCE: Microwave not heating up

Magnatron is suspect. Need to put a voltmeter on the input (primary) side to the high-voltage transformer (big heavy iron thing in there) Should be getting 120Vac when it goes to cook cycle. Don't touch the other (high voltage) side of this transformer. If the power is there, you are looking at replacing either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and diode. Its affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"

My microwave doesn’t stop heating after the timer goes off. It’s a Magic Chef MODEL NO. MCD1611ST

Sounds like you have a door switch that is sticking. The part for this is #DE96-00414A. Microwaves should always be worked on by a professional for safety.

Microwave not heating up

If the microwave is not heating check magnetron connections, probably you will need to replace the magnetron.

Tin foil or steel plates in a microwave will burn it out. I suspect it is or has burnt out. Never put anything steel in a microwave.

The cooling fan is a must!

Otherwise, the magnetron will be ruined, and that drives up the repair cost.

Microwave stopped working completely

Fan turned on after cooking because a thermostat got to hot and tripped turning on the fan to try to cool the unit.  The unit went completely dead when thermal fuse tripped which is located above the cavity on the left side.
