HP LaserJet fax not working

This could be one of a couple of things,
!. Digital Phone lines that are not filtered, this printer has an analog fax card, if you are on digital phonelines there is too much noise for the printer to recognize the data and connect to the sender. Try setting the error correction mode to off, this should be an option under the fax setup menu, also if you see the option for fax speed make sure it is set to v.17 or medium. If this does not work contact your service provider and ask to the test the quality on the line, If your fax can send faxes it more likely to be static or noise rather than a hardware failure, You can also try doing a hard reset which will reboot the fax card, I believe for this printer the way to do so is the following: while the printer is off hold down the right arrow and the cancel button and turn the printer on, Hold unitl you see permanent storage init,

It wouldn't hurt to check if there is a firmware update available,

Call your phone company first and have them test your line, it sounds like there is a noise in the phone line.
