Freezer is not cooling and food has all thawed.

Freezer stopped holding cold 24 hrs. We've tried removing all the food to recirculate air and have turned the unit off/on to reset however still not cooling. Fridge side is warmer as well.

Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezerFreezer is not cooling and food has all thawed. - 2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

My freezer door was left open. food partially thawed, motor making a loud clattering sound. after shutting the door, the noise stopped. it took>24 hrs for the food to refreeze

Maybe evaporator fan making noise. After leaving open for long time, there was probably significant frost build up on evaporator near fan.

My whirlpool gold two sided refrigerator, model #6D5RHAXNB00, the refrigerator side is not getting cold enough! I can't feel any cool air coming through the vent on the left upper corner.

your freezer may be iced up not allowing the cold air from the freezer to blow into the frige .you may see a ice build up on the back wall of the freezer.an ice build up can also stop the fan.if you can leave the unit off for 12 hrs or longer to thaw and that helps after restarting you may need to change the defrost timer ,defrost heater or both.a faster way is to remove the covers if you can do that.

Freezer stopped freezing. food started getting soft on top. power light on. green light off. tapped it , green light on. less than 1 yr old.

Hello,

Fan problem is one of the most common reasons for the freezer to start failing, this is called "frost free failure." Ice can build up on the evaporator coils over time, and this ice builds up until it starts blocking the fan. The fan is responsible for circulating cold air throughout the freezer, so if it is blocked the freezer will not be able to freeze any food. You can usually check this by removing an access panel in the back of the freezer to inspect the coils. If ice is built up on the coils, a hairdryer can assist in defrosting them.

It's also possible that the fan is not running at all. If the fan is burned out or the motor isn't running, cold air can't circulate through the freezer and everything will melt. You can normally hear the fan motor switch on and off from time to time. Listen for it and if you can't hear it coming on for an extended period of time, the motor may need repair or replacement. The wires connecting to the fan may be the problem, preventing the fan from receiving electricity.

Several other problems could be keeping your freezer from freezing:

There could be leaks in one or several of the hoses in the refrigerator, which results in the cold air being lost instead of circulating properly throughout the fridge and freezer.

If you have the freezer so full that the cold air can't circulate, your food will thaw even though the freezer isn't malfunctioning. Always leave some space open in the freezer and try to not store food right up against the cooling vents.

The thermostat might have shorted out, which means the freezer can't accurately determine how cold it is. If this is the case, the refrigerator would probably not be working, either.

If your defrost drain becomes clogged, the water in the line will just refreeze over and over again, which could damage the lines as well as the fan. Always check the drain and make sure no sludge is building up in it if you have a self-defrosting refrigerator.

Always try to keep the freezer door closed for long periods of time. The more the door is opened, the more warm air is let in and cold air is released. If the door is opened frequently, the freezer could be warming faster than the fridge can cool it, which will thaw your food.

Good luck.

Refrigerator is not cold (50);freezer is working; vents not blocked. What can I do? Fan is working, & compressor does kick on.

Nine out of ten times it turns out to be a defrost issue. What most people dont understand is the refrigerator gets its cool air from the freezer. If the evaporator coil in the freezer becomes a block of ice then the airflow from freezer to fridge section is blocked. The block of ice along with already frozen foods in the freezer compartment help to keep those foods frozen. Therefore you assume the freezer section is fine. However, the lack of cool airflow to the fridge side quickly turns that 38 degree air into 50 degree air. You could try unplugging the fridge and leaving doors open for 24 hours, this will thatw the evap coil. Plug it back in after the 24 hours, and within 12-24 hrs everything should be cool. If the fridge continutes to cool for about 3-6 days and then fails again, you certainly have a defrost problem. This is long winded, but hope it helps

Water collects under veggie drawers constantly and leaks out when opened

You probably have a clogged drain in the freezer. The easiest fix would be to remove all food and let the unit thaw for 24 hrs with the doors open.

The other option would be removing the freezer panel and taking a turkey baster with hot water and running it down the drain line until it thaws.

Freezer not blowing air - bad smell in fridge

Your automatic defroster coil is open and needs to be replaced along with the fan in the freezer that blows the cold air around and also blows air into refrigerator.

Bad smell down below is food rotting in that section because it is not cold enough.
