Depending on the model you have, you'll have to remove the sole plate (i.e. the foot plate where the brush meets the carpet) and then stretch the belt over the motor flywheel. Dont try it the other way (i.e. get the belt on the brush and then pull roughly to meet the motor flywheel)  as its easier to get the roller brush over the belt and then strongly push the beater bar/roller brush back into place making sure both ends are seated properly. Then fix the sole plate on securely and switch on to see if it works.

Brush bar not turning....cleaned everything...no power button to switch on and off brush control...DC14

Hi. You will need to remove the brush cover (3 screws, quarter turn to install or remove) and see if you have an earlier model or newer model. Earlier models are direct drive. One belt connects the motor to the brush. The newer models have a clutch and two belts. One belt from motor to clutch and one belt clutch to brush. More often belts and clutch fail. Good Luck.

Canister vacuum

Without the make or model... We are speaking in GROSS GENERALITIES... but

ELECTRICAL Trouble...
The light & the BRUSH not working ... when considered TOGETHER.. would indicate a NEED to check your electrical connections...

My best advise would be to:
make sure the cords & wands are fully connected
make sure the (HEAD) motor is running ...

If the motor (brush head) is running... belt looks good and brush is not seized (or jammed)...

You will need to look to the DRIVE PULLEY on the motor OUT-PUT shaft...

Hope this helps

Brushes don't rotate during floor cleaning

Check that no strings or other debris is clogging the brush wheels. If it isnt that check that the belt isnt broken connecting the brush to the motor. If that is ok, most likely the motor is blown and not turning the belt.

Belt replace panasonic vac

Is it an upright? On mine it's very simple.
Unplug vacuum and lay it on floor so that you are looking at the rotating brush. Remove screws that attach the cowling. Remove the cowling. You will then see the rotating brush ends. One end will have the belt, or what's left of on the brush wheel. You will also see the motor shaft. The belt goes between the shaft and the brush wheel. Carefully remove the brush by holding both ends and pulling straight out. Place the new belt on the brush wheel and replace the brush. With the belt on the brush wheel, stretch it to fit on the motor shaft. Rotate the brush to make sure the belt is riding correctly at both ends. Replace cowling and screws.

I have a bissell 7901-1 carpet cleaner and the gear the runs the beater bar is loose how does it connect to the pump thanks

turn your unit over so you are looking at the bottom (side towards floor) on either side of the brush are a phillip's screw- one side will show a larger red piece- take that phillips screw out, it will show you the pump you can take the belt access cover off and see the one belt, the belt to the beater brush is gear like- take the belt that connects to the brush and loop it over the gear on the pump- then put the brush belt over the brush and seat it back into the protector- I would suggest you hand spin the brush to ensure both belts and the pump are turning otherwise You may do like I did and burn the other belt- I replaced both belts just because it made sense- reseat the red piece you removed then replace and tighten the screw-

I have a new brush to install but cant figure how to remove old, what is the trick?

On most vaccuums, there should be a single panel going across one side of the brush wheel. If not, the entire panel should come off. In 90% of cases, this will basically allow the brush wheel to fall free, and the new one to be slotted into the old slot. Ensure the belt is connected, and reattach the panel.

Why are new belts breaking immediately?

Could be the brush has resistance..
While the new belt is in place - spin the brush by hand.. The brush should spin reasonably freely..
If not - take the brush out and inspect it.. Be sure the ends are not jammed and you can snin them easily.. If not - replace the brush..
PS - the belt goes in one way.. If inside-out - it will not last as long..
Directions on packageing..

Hope this helps !!

Replaced the belts on Hoover WindTunnel U6473-900/brush won't tur

There is a belt tensioner that maybe not contacting the belt when you tilt the handle back, It is either jammed and not moving up and down freely or it is broke. Look down below the belt, there should be a small wheel, that has to contact the belt.

Belt Stretched on my Hoover Windtunnel Farrington upright model U6431-900

hi, In order to to replace the V belt the one that turns the brush, One must take off the bigger belt " drive belt" that goes over that hugh wheel towards the back. When a belt gets stretched they will not turn the brush very well. If you have bought replacement belts the bigger belt Drive comes 2 in a package. Then you have your little V belt that helps turn your roller brush over. Yes the belts don't last long on my hoover. For kpatr22101 When you rpelace that V belt it goes over the roller brush into a little groove on the brush and then over a plastic round wheel then you must put on that bigger drive belt that must fit over that hugh wheel towards back and smaller on in front. Yes it is hard to get on. the I hope this helps. Cindy G.
