Brother DCP-135C Print Quality Settings Not Working Correctly

I have just purchased a brand new DCP-135C but everytime I try to print on a quality setting lower than normal, such as fast or fast normal, instead of printing at a lesser quality, it makes the document much smaller. The lower the setting, the smaller the print.
I have tried changing many settings to resolved this no luck. I have tried fitting and shrinking to the pages as I thought that was the problem but no luck.
Please can anyone help me here asap. I wanted to get a few things printed tonight for university but I don't want to waste precious ink on documents that need not be high quality.

Have you uninstalled the driver, and reinstalled it?

Are you running Windows Vista? If so, have you downloaded the latest software from Brother's website? www.brother.com

It sounds like the driver is confusing the settings internally, which leads me to think that it is either corrupt or not compatible with your operating system.

Brother DCP-350C magenta ink won't clean and print quality check shows multiple visible gaps

You have a blockage in the print head and/or feed line from the ink cartridge to the print head. One possible fix would be to make a pad of paper kitchen towel wet it and sit the print head on it overnight. With luck the pad will soak the blockage and draw ink through the head. Give the machine two self cleans and try a print quality test to see if you have made ANY improvement. If no improvement - forget it as the blockage has been there too long.

Brother DCP-135C Every time I switch on the printer, I get "Cleaning Cleaning Cleaning" for about 4 or 5 minutes before I can print anything. It's driving me potty. Is there a fix for this before I chuck...

try these options below....
turn on/off, unplug, plug in2_bing.gif, should reset configs.

take all the paper out, put half as much back in.
check the rollers to make sure no paper or particles are stuck.

go to applications folder for your computer, dbl click printer icon for make of printer. check settings. print 'test document and clean cartridge heads', this should ensure proper printing formats. another thing might be that you have to leave the printer on at all times, have you've tried this? i have known printers to be this way, not so sure with your brand though.

lastly, go to web site of printer model and check site for trouble shooting if this does not work above.
hope this helps and good luck

The colour on my Brother 135C Printer is not printing properley, could it be that the printer heads need aligning? If so how do I do that? Regards, David Melton

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Good Luck

DCP 135C won't print in black

This is a generic problem for many printers. Some printers print black by 4 catridges. Try this, or it will be better that you call service support.

Using far too much ink

This came from brothers website:

The Yellow ink cartridge yield is up to 300 pages @ 600 x 150 dpi when printing at 5% coverage on A4 sized paper.
The Magenta ink cartridge yield is up to 300 pages @ 600 x 150 dpi when printing at 5% coverage on A4 sized paper.
The Cyan ink cartridge yield is up to 300 pages @ 600 x 150 dpi when printing at 5% coverage on A4 sized paper.
The Black ink cartridge yield is up to 350 pages @ 600 x 150 dpi when printing at 5% coverage on A4 sized paper.

so it appears that what you are experiencing is not normal and you may have a leaking printer.

There is one thing you can check though, everytime you print, make sure that you are not printing at the highest quality option selectable as this almost certainly will fire out more ink than regular printing... choose a middle quality option or even draft option if you will be printing regular text.
