SOURCE: My ex changed some fuses
Most likely the higher amp fuses allowed a shorted circuit to contune to function which overheated some wiring and burned the insulation causing the smoke. Yes, you probably will need to replace some wiring. But, first the shorted / overloaded circuit needs to be identified and repaired.

It ended up being the ignition switch and string of people obviously not worthy of the mechanic title, unknown to me of course until i spoke with a true mechanic who guessed the problem over the phone and sure enough.
