Something happened while using a universal remote, and now the screen aspect ratio is weird and there are codes on the screen. pressing the volume up and down buttons on the actual tv changes the numbers and whatnot but we cant get it to go back to normal.

That's weird. If your remote has a "live TV" button, try pressing that. If not, all I can tell you is that the problem is in the aspect selection.

bring up the on screen menu, find the aspect ratio and used the volume buttons to adjust to correct ratio, go ok then exit

use the remote to get the on screen menu ( press menu button on the remote)
move until you get aspect ratios
select what you want
ok and exit.

this is an aspect ratio problem ans is corrected /adjusted on the on screen menu
use the remote to achieve the on screen menu and scroll around until you find aspect ratio
use the volume buttons to select and adjust

Probably Not. Since most universal remotes will only be good for certain functions,i.e. Volume, Channel etc... not all the features of the original remote. You can try to do it manually if there is a Menu function on your TV.

All universal remote control won't work with all the functions to the TV. If you wish to get it properly, you have to buy its original remote control. Refer the user manual to your TV and check how can you change the aspect ratio of picture. Changing aspect ratio will change the height of the picture.

The aspect ratio on your DVD player is not set correctly. Look for a SETUP button on the remote control, there should be something like "QUICK SETUP" or something similar on the setup menu, if not then go to the menu that has the aspect ratio settings listed. Change your aspect ratio to 16:9 WIDESCREEN, and this should solve your problem. Your aspect ratio is 4:3 which is for a regular TV, if the images (especially people) look real skinny and tall on your TV then your aspect ratio is not properly set. Good luck to you!

Check your remote for a "zoom" or "picture size" button. Press this button to adjust the size until everything fits back on the screen.
