My Hp Pavilion dv2810 does turn on but nothing appears on the display. Also, hard drive light does not go on and does not seem to "move". Usually when computers are turned on, you will notice hard-drive is alive.

If you have access to a monitor plug that into the laptop and see if you have a picture if you have it probably the invertor that lights the backlight its behind the screen at the bottom

this sounds like a hard drive that has failed.
hard drive needs replacement.

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Counts up the 256MB memory then HP logo (3 sizes) appears (just visible)
The 3 lights keep cycling on the display. Thats it, does nothing else.
It has been left overnight and continues to display the logo and cycling 3 lights.
Rear DC Cont Fan is turning. No other fans or activity with machine.
When ADF/scanner/mfp or hard disk are disconnected it does recognise this and throws an error and asks for reboot.
I have tried cold reset, nvram init. and hard disk init. but no difference.
Your thoughts?

If the hard disk is absent in the BIOS then it has died, nothing you can do, replace it.

if the ram is bad reseating it wont work has to be replaced. this is 60% CHANCE RAM IS BAD

Unable to start the notebook

No screen usually means bad inverter or bad Lcd.Hook up to an external moniter and see if you have video.If you do then your lcd has gone out.

check if your model is covered by the enhanced warranty.... I have the same issue

I am also facing the same problem with my HP Pavilion DV2810US laptop. It was working fine till other day when while using Facebook, my screen scrambled and then shut it down using power button. After that when I tried to turn it on again, it doesnt have any display. All the indicators though are on but the hard-drive indicator is not on. Please advise if anyone has faced same issue.

I am also facing the same problem! It happened for the first time about 2 wks ago and I took the battery out and put it back in then it worked. But now that doesn't seem to work either and I don't know what to do....
