After set has been on for about 30 min. you can see the green get brighter then it flashes and goes back to normal once this has started it will continue until it shuts off. I had the retrace lines and adjusted that but now I have another problem, Any advise? is there anything else that may need to be adjusted and is it something I could do? Stumped again in NC
I have seen this one before. It is caused by voltage spike on the green CRT. Did you adjust the green color voltage to remove the retrace lines?
This problem started a month ago now I'm wondering if I may have adjusted the focus on top I do know the retrace lines went away and it was fine for awile but I wasn't watching it much seems the longer it was on was when it would flash. Could I try to turn the focus on the green a little to the left? I do know when I asked for assistance last night I turned the bottom screen to adjust but I wasn't seeing the retrace lines It's fine until it warms up after 30min or so then flashes so it does sound like a voltage problem. And if I adjusted the focus the first time and not the screen I may have created this problem. Got to love it. Hopefully I haven't damanged anything else but again I'm not certain if I did the focus. Any advise about turning the green focus to the left? Thanks again
Check this out. Is this what you did?

Yes it was.
The try turning it in the opposite direction such that the lines are not there and the spike does not occur. My guess is that you turned it too much! Don't know if the spike has damaged the resistors on the CRT board but I hope not. Adjust it keep it on for half and hour and see if the spike occurs again.
Last night I turned the screen control on the bottom ( green) all the way to the left and gradually to the right until I saw the green retrace lines and then back to the left until they went away I thought this corrected it but after awhile you could notice the color starting to get brighter and then flash, I'll try to turn it back to the left some more and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again I will let you know what happens. If this doesn't work what would you think needs replacing I do have experience in soldering and working on circuit boards. I do have the service manual but not an oscilloscope.
You do not need an oscilloscope. When this kind of thing happens its only the resistors (that go boom) on the small board attached to the back of the green CRT. Shouldn't be too hard for you considering your experience level. I hope it had not progressed to that level though.
Thank you for your help. If it did damage the CG board I found one online for $24.00 that sounds better than trying to find the faulty resistor. And I also found the tubes already assembled for around $129.00 Again thank you for the help.
