Your Dyson is designed to cut out if it becomes overheated, and it then takes about half an hour to cool down properly. If you don't resolve the problem, it will soon cutout again. Clogeed filters or other blockages are the usual cause of cutting out, but there are others, for example, incorrectly fitting valves, or broken belt. You need to do more cleaning. Follow the step by step instructions for your model, which can be found here.

You will be following a path for solving cutting out when you are using the machine, and I would be surprised if you can't fix yours.

My dirt devil keeps shutting off randomly

It's overheating. Empty the cup and replace the filters. There's a breaker that opens up and turns it off when it gets too hot. When it cools down it closes back up and it will run again. It'll argue with you til the end of time or until you fix the problem.

Vacum shuts off

If you have BISSELL vacuum, some of our models have a brush reset. Here are the instructions to turn it back on:

If something becomes lodged in the foot and the

brush shuts off, turn the cleaner off and unplug

from the outlet. Remove the obstruction. The

brush will automatically reset when the cleaner
is plugged in and turned back on.

Additionally, you could have dirty filters that are activating a thermal protector switch that shuts the vacuum off if the motor becomes too hot. If this is the case unplug the vacuum, clean any filters, clogs, or obstructions and wait 30 minutes for the unit to cool. Then plug the unit in and it should work. I hope this helps.

The machine shuts off after 2 - 3 minutes. Turning it off and back on gets about 10 secnd run. The batteries are NOT discharged. Have to it off and back on repeatedly ot finish the job.

The problem is not the battery pack. It is in the electronic over current circuit that prevents a possible overheating of the battery pack. My unit will run for 10 - 15 seconds and then shuts off. The over current sensor is reset by moving the power switch to the "OFF" position. If you turn the vacuum back on it will run for a few more seconds before shutting off again. There is a small circuit board in the vacuum that contains the over current protection circuit. It uses an NXP Semiconductor HEF4001BP quad 2-input NOR gate. If you are good at soldering you might try replacing this chip. Otherwise, buy a new vacuum. The problem is not in the thermal circuit breaker located in the handle. I have bypassed the breaker and the problem still occurs.

Rainbow e2 2 speed vacuum shuts off after 5 minutes of vacuuming.

2 speed E2 models have a circuit board inside that controls the machine. It sounds like this controller board may be bad. The unfortunate part of this is that the board is not only very expensive, but it is only available from an authorized Rainbow service center.
Use caution if you decide to work on this yourself or if you take it to a service center that is not famliar with these models. The circuit board mentioned above is susceptible to damage from static eclectricity discharge. The static you generate from just walking across a carpet could make this board useless. So, if the original problem is not the board you could make the problem worse.

Shuts off after a minute or so and comes back on and shuts down in 20 seconds

Sounds like it is over heating do to a dirty filter. Or there is something blocking the air flow in the vacuum.

Bosch BSA2222UC canister vacuum shuts off after 5 minutes

You have a plugged vacuum indicator port. There will be a tiny hole somewhere near the hose inlet. Just clean it with a dry toothbrush. This will allow the vacuum pressure to equalize on either side of the shut off switch.

Nutone central vac vx550

It's a known problem. I bought my vx550 last year in July and it stopped working this year in May. On for 5 minutes, shut down, can't run for a few hours, runs for another five minutes, etc. I called the Nutone customer service department and they exchanged the unit for a new one, cross shipped, via UPS. Mine was still under warranty though. It has to do with some defective thermostat or controller in the electronics of the vacuum.

No power

Does it shut off with the hose removed? If it does then there is a problem with the electronic control(mounted by the motor), or the motor itself. If it doesn't, then there is a clog in the hose, wand, or powerhead.
