Emachine T2542 Won't power on

I have an Emachine T2542 with Windows Xp. I had it turned on yesterday and was in the middle of editing some photos, when it shut off. There was not a shutdown screen or anything. It just turned completely off and now it won't turn on. I checked the outlet on the power supply it's plugged into and it is getting power.

My t2542 keeps shutting down after about twenty minutes. I have replace the hard drive, power supply twice, reset jumper settings, and am about to conceed to the fact that it may be in the Mother board. It stays on to get through the boot but unpredictable when it will reboot.

It looks like your computer's power supply unit is gone. This is common with the eMachine T2542 series. Unfortunately, sometimes this destroys your motherboard as well.

HERE is a thread I found on another forum relating to the same problem. I guess you'd be better off trying to invest in a better machine. Sorry I can't be of more help. But do go through the link I posted, you may find it helpful.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here. Please do not assign a rating until you feel your problem is resolved. I will try my best to help you further if need be.

If you are satisfied with my solution or have no other questions, please close the problem by assigning a FIXYA rating for my solution. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

Windows XP won't load on my emachine t3516

You may need to check to make sure Windows XP was installed properly, if the computer had crashed, you can do a repair, I am a computer technician, and I can tell you, that replacing the power supply will not do that.

Sounds like a video error. It may be caused also by a bad memory, but I suspect problems with video.

Reinstalled windows xp on a split partition resulting memory prob

You should just be able to boot off the Windows XP cd and perform what is called a clean installation. This will format the drive and give you access to all 160 gigs of drive space.  Seems like you've already lost all your data, but that's where to go.

Emachine t2542

When you say out, do you mean they are broken, or just disconnected? Most of these computers have a plug on the end of the wires to the front panel and it just plugs into the system board. If you look at the board you'll see where the front panel wires go. Sometimes it's hard to read the small type, but there are labels on the board that tell you what connector does what.

Rebuilding emachine - windows 98SE

A C100 error is a registry error. I suggest that U format the drive and reinstall the 98SE. There are programs (bought) available that may fix this problem, but another perferred choice would be to purchase a XP operating system. Boot up on the XP cd and replace the 98SE with the XP. It's better, faster, prettier and more reliable.

Emachine help

Hi. could be a few things
1st thing if theres no power going to the base unit, the power supply is gone will cost about £20 for a new one.
2nd thing it could be graphics card, memory needs refitting. ie take them out and refitting them usually fixes it.
theres a few other things it could be but less likely. i suggest trying the above..

have a great new year
