The TV is a Philips 46in HD rear projection (Date Code July 2002) The problem: When I turn the TV on it shows a blurred picture, almost as though you are looking at it wearing 3-D glasses or have double vision.

HI,

The fact that your unit first got blurry means trouble in the High Voltage section. Probably has a shorted Horizontal Output Transistor and a possible shorted flyback. If you are not experienced with TV repair you will have to enlist a reputable repair shop.

You can try out a hard reset and see if it helps.Just unplug all the cords for 4 hours and then plug it back

Goodluck,

You should try cleaning the projection lens on the tv first.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Screwdriver
  • Projection TV
  • Camera lens cleaning cloth

Step1 Unplug the TV from the power supply. Never undertake any type of repairs on electric equipment without first disconnecting from power. Take care in handling any electric parts, as some may contain a residual charge that can shock you.

Step2 Remove screws from the back cover and connection area of the TV. Be sure to put them in a safe place, or on a piece of paper with notations for where each one fits in the television.

Step3 Gently remove the back cover. Locate the mirror and three projection “guns,” as these are what you want to clean eventually.

Step4 Use a camera lens cleaning cloth (or other very soft and gentle cloth) to clean the mirror and lens. Gently remove any other dust before closing the TV.

Step5 Replace the back cover and screws. Plug back in the power supply.

Step6 Turn on the television. Check to see that everything works correctly and that your picture is now clearer.

Let me know if that helps or whether you feel comfortable doing it or if you need anything else pertaining to this tv.

Remember to be careful when working on electronics

Take out the comb filter and
replace the surface mount electrolytic capacitors (I think there were
around 4 of them) on the comb filter and put it back in the
motherboard. MCM sells a kit If I'm not mistaken with capacitors
that fix this problem as well as the picture in picture problem which
    these same sets have.
