When connected to computer in order to download photos, hp photosmart R272 screen stays at "establishing connection" and nothing further happens.

if you have a card reader you can it hooks up to your computer by usb cable and then you can get your pictures on the computer and then hit print and this should work for you.

When trying to download photos I get a message stating that there is not camera hooked up to the USB port. My camera is indeed connected and I have rerun the Olympus software disc to no avail. Please help.

Make sure the camera is on and pc is selected on the camera screen when connected to the computer. You will need to have PC highlighted and select ok on the camera as this starts the camera and computer to communicate. Once communication established the LCD screen of the camera goes dark and the computer should generate a removable disk drive. Check the System Tray (lower right corner beside the PC time) for Safely Remove Hardware. When you click on it, it should read "Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device Drive ?:" If you dont see that, then check the Device Manager to see if the camera is recognized as USB Mass Storage Device. The camera uses the driver usbstor.

"establishing connection..." not connecting

I suspect the problem lies with the HP software on your computer. You can download the HP Photosmart software from www.hp.com. Look for Software & Driver Downloads for R707 camera. You can still transfer your photos by setting USB Configuration in your camera, to Disk Drive in the Setup Menu.

HP Photosmart M437 not establishing connection

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Once communication established the LCD screen of the camera goes dark and the computer should generate a removable disk drive. This is normal processing. The camera screen should shut off as the computer is now taking over to transfer the data from the memory card to the computer.
