I have a sony 32" kvs35. when i turn it on the picture flashes in and out. It does this when i play dvd/ sat tv or anything. sound is good and never fails. Tv stays on. is this reasonable fix price wise? is it the picture tube or something a novice can repair. Ha the tv since 96 never had a problem till now. Would love to keep it if possible. thanks
Your description can be from a number of types of faults. This can possibly be from the power supply or one of the scan circuits. On more rare occasions, the CRT can be arching or on the edge of spec, and thus the protection in the power supply is triggering.
The best way to fix this is to get the shop service manual, a DVM and a scope, and follow through with the schematics to locate the area of the fault to begin with.
If you don't have a solid knowledge in electronics for TV servicing and a lot of experience, I would not advise you to service your set. I would think you would be best off to take in in for an estimate.
When going in to a TV set yourself without experience and training, there are serious safety issues.
