The picture and sound will work fine while we are watching tv for awhile, and then all of a sudden out of no where the picture cuts out and turns into multiple colored vertical lines( like a verticle rainbow) and white fuzz and the tv will buzz that kind of dead picture/dead air sound ( like HBO white out promo, but louder and more disturbing). It is such a nice tv perfect size but this issue has us at our wits end. Any ideas?

It definetly looks like the Bad T-Con board picture exactly like that. What would you suggest we should look into first at home before we take it in?

When you have a lot of strange problems like this, first place to lool will be the power supply section, make sure all the voltages are present, check DC filter caps also. See the picture of bad T-CON board to see if it looks like the same problem as your TV.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:

Since you also mention that you hear buzzing sound also, is that true? Then you may have more than one problem. But at least you should look at the DC filter capacitors in the power supply. if the DC voltages are not clean, you will have multiple problem.

If you take it in, you can easily expecting $150 or more. $50 jsut for looking at it at least (at my location).

Send me pictures if you are not sure what you are looking at. If you only have the bad pictures problem, then T-CON board (around $50~70 for used board). I have a feeling your local TV repair will tell you that they cannot get the parts for your TV.

No picture, sound ok

I have a similar issue. Sometimes the entire screen goes black and sometimes only one-half - either the top or bottom half goes black. The only solution we have found is to gently tap the TV (usually the front side) and the picture will come back for awhile. It almost seems heat related as it only goes out after the first 10 minutes of use. There must be a fix to this.
