First of all you need to find out exactly what audio card you have installed and for the fingerprint driver, go to HP and you can find the drivers there. If you do not know your hardware specs for your laptop then try downloading a program called AIDA32. This will analyze and report all your hardware specs.

The driver could be out of date. Try opening device manager. If you are running Windows 7 or Vista, click on the start menu and type device manager. If you are running Windows XP, click on start, control panel, system, then the hardware tab, and device manager. Scroll down and open the plus' until you find the fingerprint reader. When you find it, right click on it and click update driver. Tell it yes, you want it to search online for a new driver.
you can usually use a windows xp/2k driver just in support mode (right mouse click the setup and select the tab support and change it to windows XP service pack 2) that should help you if not then get back to me and i will help you further
If you can find out what kind of bios you have it would help us greatly. When you first start up your computer i need to know the first name you see. It probably appears on the first splash screen along with the computer companies logo. But you are going to have to go into bios and turn the fingerprint scanner on.
Or And i should have mentioned this first... You have to go into the control panel and double click on the system icon. Once in the system properties select the device manager. If it is turned on in bios it may be disabled in this list you should be seeing. I run windows xp so i'm not sure of how to get to the device manager but it will be real close to the above directions. You are going to have to enable the device and reinstall the drivers
This fingerprint reader will support vista as well. Just connect the fingerprint reader to your vista computer and install the driver from the driver cd that you recieve with this reader.
Now you are ready to use your athena100 fingerprint reader
