Hello, Liz -
I cannot answer your question regarding the rarity of your Singer sewing machine.
I did find information here regarding manufacturing of Singer sewing machines in Brazil:

The Singer factory in Campinas, Brazil started production in 1955.
In the middle of 1950 Singer purchased 300 acres of land in Viracopos Campinas. On 14 May 1955 the new Singer factory was formerly opened by the then President of Brazil.

Early machines produced at the Campinas factory were identified by serial numbers that took the form of RA, RB, RC etc. followed by 6 digits starting at 000001 up to 999999.

I also found manufacture date information for Singer sewing machines with QA numbering. See:
http://www.sewalot.com/dating_singer_sewing_machine_by_serial_number.htm
Machines with QA to QZ identification began to be manufactured in 1963.
For more information, I suggest you contact the Singer Sewing Machine Co. and ask to have your phone call transferred to the company archives. This is the link to the Singer Contact Us web page:
https://www.singer.com/support
Scroll down the page to find the phone number and the days and hours a Customer Service Representative will be available via phone.
The company archives should hold records which should identify if your model of sewing machine was manufactured in great quantities or not.
Note: At one time in my career I worked as a archivist and historian for a business.
Best wishes.
