Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

Error 5 on Canon eos 350D

My Canon 350d will not flash and clicks 3 times after the flash raises. It then shows an error 5 on the screen. Can anybody help

Hi there,

Well first of all you can try a full reset, Pull both batteries out -the normal one, and the date/time one. If your camera is older (>2 yrs), it may be time to replace that battery..... anyway Put a new one in, and then put in the freshly-charged main battery, that might clear the error. If further you have the same problem then something is causing the flash to stick. Press the button and pull gently on the flash. Post comments for more help or information needed.....

Err 05 on Canon 7D

The error code is used to tell you the flash could not be raised. Check if anything is blocking the free movement of the pop up flash. First reaction should be, switch the camera off and then on again. Better though, after you switched off the computer remove the battery and charge it first, Then again try everything as before.
The manual says is the error persists, wroth down the error number and contact your nearest Canon Service Centre.

I have a Canon Rebel. When I try to take pictures the flash "hood" or something automatically pops up but somehow the light doesn't flash and all I hear are 3 clicks. Then the screen says error...

Error 5 is a flash error. What sounds like it happening is the mechanical part of the flash is working allowing for the pop-up, but the camera thinks there is an external flash present. A repair shop should be able to address the issue. Usually it's a problem with the micro switches "inside" the flash shoe.

Does the flash open?
Open the flash and try alcohol or purell hand sanitizer on the hinges and release mechanism. Let it soak in and work it in by moving the flash hood repeatedly up and down

Canon EOS 350D flashes error 05 and flash won't pop up

I had the same problem but found that manually popping the flash up about 10 or 12 times restored the auto pop-up function.

Error 5 I cannot take a picture, I keep hearing a clicking sound, and I get an error 5.

I have just gotten this error myself. I beleive the clicking sound is the mechcanism for letting the flash pop up. I have temporarily over come this by manually lifting the flash or selecting a mode that doesn't require the flash. The cause on my own is due to a piece of dirt but I have not done anything with it yet. Hope this gives a temporary respite.

Camera clicks and I get an 05 message on my canon rebel XT

Listen to the flash when you press the button. If you hear a click help the flash up and search here for how to clean the switches or the hinge. If you hear nothing the release is stuck and I don't know how you can open the flash.

Erro 5

Err 5 is the code shown when the flash isn't correctly released. Try cleaning the area around the built in flash and make sure it can pop up freely

I don't have a 350D, and don't have a list of codes but I would guess the error code refers to the Compact Flash card. In the instructions to my camera, a 400D, the solution is to remove and reinstall the card, if there is still a problem, you might have to format the card. Hopefully this will help!
