My wife entered the wrong pin number by accident on the nuvi 750. She tried turning the unit off and then back on to reset back to "enter pin" code mode however she gets the response "you must return to your safe security location to override your pin number". Help....Shouldn't the nuvi after entering the incorrect pin code reset to default "enter pin" screen when turned off then back on?

Too reset your PIN code you need to enter the PUK code. When you, accidently, enter 5 times a wrong PIN code your phone will ask you for the PUK code. If you don't have it go to your operator and ask for it. they CAN find it by entering your phone number or SIM card number.

The Garmin Lock (anti-theft feature) security feature has been activated.
Going back to the security location will unlock the unit but in order to reset the pin code, the original pin code must be input.
To unlock the unit, it must be sent back to Garmin.

You have to go to the orig location you programmed your number. It uses the coordinates of that location in memory as a "Home" See below.
The Garmin Lock is a theft-deterrent system that locks your nuvi. Each time you turn the on the nuvi, you would have to enter the PIN or drive to the security location.
To set the Garmin Lock on the device:

1. From the Main Menu, touch the Wrench (Tools) icon.
2. Touch Settings.
3. Touch Security. (you may need to touch the down arrow button)
4. Touch the tab labeled Off next to the Garmin Lock heading.
5. The nuvi will prompt you to enter a four-digit pin number.
6. Enter a four-digit code as your pin.
7. Re-enter the four-digit pin.
8. Go to a 'Security Location' and let the unit acquire satellites (the security location will unlock the unit if the pin is forgotten or lost).
9. Set the 'Security Location' by touching Set.

Resetting the unit does NOT reset the PIN. Even a Master Reset will not reset the PIN. You have three options for unlocking a PIN locked Garmin:
1 - Enter the correct PIN
2 - Take the unit to the location at which the PIN was entered
3 - Send the unit back to Garmin

Unfortunately, even if you perform master reset on Garmin GPS unit, it does not reset Garmin Lock security feature, which password-protect most Garmin electronic devices to deter theft. If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit, the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. “Secure Location” does not unlock a locked Garmin unit either as it’s only a temporary fix as when it’s turn on outside the security location, the device is locked again."

So unfortunately, there is only one option: You have to send your nüvi into the Garmin, who can unlock it. Remember original receipt.

The only way to unlock a locked Garmin is to enter the correct PIN number, or take the unit to the location where the PIN was entered. Your only other option is to return the unit to Garmin.

A PUK code is required if the wrong PIN number is entered too many times incorrectly. If the wrong PUK is entered too many times the SIM will be permanently blocked.
PUK codes are unique to SIM card. Contact your carrier for the correct code to reset your pin.

It can't be reset without entering the correct PIN or driving to the security location. Failing this, the unit must be sent back to Garmin.
