This unit needs new rubber parts. I don't know the particulars of your model, but it has drive belts and/or an idler assembly that needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: Why won't older Sanyo VCR playback VHS tape on new HD-LCD TV?

Hello,
The problem is not with your TV. I have had this problem as well and the older the VCR gets the harder it is for it to turn the tape. Does your VCR react the same way with other tapes? Try Fastforwarding the tape about halfway and then test it again.

Connecting my vcr to tv/satellite

They are actually called RCA connectors.
There should be RCA jacks on the back of your
VCR and the back of your receiver. They are color coded RED, WHITE, YELLOW.

Sanyo vcr VHR-9433

Your end of tape sensor is not working. Notice the beginning and end of each tape is clear? That is to allow IR (infared light) which you cannot see with out special stuff, into the area near the left and right of the cassette. Usually they look like a tiny light bulb wit a left and right side. Radio SHack carrys IR detectors cheap.
