there was power outage yesterday, and later when I tried to use the printer it gave me an error message "Ink system failure" and a code oxc18a0306; I unpluged for 2 minutes and removed all ink cartridges, then put them back but still get same message.

Did a master reset. Unplug the printer, then pressing the help and ok buttons simultaneously plug it back in. it will recalibrate and ask to replace almost all of the ink cartridges, however Unplugging the printer, while then pressing the help and ok buttons simultaneously plug it back in did fix it and I am able to print again. Thank you soo soo soo much.
I took the new ink cartridges back out put old empties back in and ran the master reset worked fine and no mess to clean up. Hope this helps the next person with this error. The on off instructions from everywhere including HP was a total flop, The instructions for the master re-set was the trick. When the system re-set it spewed out a truck load of yellow ink (what a mess) but some alcohal and a rag and a shell tear down cleaned it all up. appears it was a clog and the re-set forced the pummp to prime and shoosh out came all the back up. But the printer is fixed cleaned and about a hundred pages thru with no problems. Thanks for the post.
Thank you very much for your help (Best Solution). The Help/OK Master reset procedure did the trick (everything else failed). I took all the ink cartridges out before resetting. Replaced the cartridges when asked; no mess, took a couple of minutes to cycle through and I was good to go. Thanks again!
I myself have not tried this, but apparently it came from HP.
HP Photosmart C5180 show ink system failure message This was what I was told to do for my C5180. First they told me to do a power drain. This is done by pulling out the power cable and then holding the on/off button for a minute, then putting the power cable back in (this didn't work). Then we did a master reset. Unplug the printer, then pressing the help and ok buttons simultaneously plug it back in. This sorted it. :) Have to say it looked like this whole process used up shed loads of ink, so by the time I had finished I needed to replace 3 cartridges!

This error usually means you are at the end of the life on the printhead or the printhead assembly has a defect causing it to stop working. You can try removing all of the cartridges with the machine on. once they have all been removed unplug the power cord from the socket (be sure printer is still on!) wait about 30sec-1min. then plug back in. the display will Read out of ink install and an icon for each missing color. Reinstall all cartridges and close cover. it will take a minute or 2 for it to cycle and prime the ink. The display should read ink Sysytem Failure, power down machine. Press Power button to shut down, leave for another 30sec. and then turn back on. If the error displays again you will have to contact HP for in warranty service or replacement options. Note: if you are out of Warranty it is a good idea to shop for a new printer via Costco, Walmart, or an Office Supply Store, it will save you $$$
(a friend had this issue and they were going to sell her a new printer for $30 more than staples plus shipping!)
The error that you are having is a hardware issue, it means your printer has an Ink System Failure. Believe me, there's no use going through troubleshooting for this one. Call HP and just Upgrade your printer. HP Printer Tech Support would be more than happy in giving you discounts and an extra year of warranty for $1.00.

This is a result in a print head failure or the use of non HP ink ether or there right you need to service the unit part will be needed if the maintance does fail. If your using non HP ink stop its use and purchase HP ink you be glad you did!
1. Try to remove and reinstall the Ink Catridges. Be sure it is lock in place on the ink cartridge holder. 2. Turn off the Printer and unplug and replug the power adapter. 3. Uninstall and reinstall the printer driver.
HP Photosmart C7180 will not accept new '02' yellow ink cartridge and repeatedly states 'printer does not have enough ink to ensure printer health. The empty ink cartridge must be replaced to resume.' This is the 2nd HP '02'yellow I've bought and it continues to say the same.
