Go to control panel>network connections, right click, then properties, then click the TCP/IP line, properties again and ensure that 'obtain ip address automatically' is ticked, click ok,  then close down the window, right click on the network icon again and then properties, then view wireless connections.

Any that appear in this list including your own if it shows need to be deleted, then when you close the window a pop up should appear in the task bar saying wireless networks detected, click the bubble then highlight your connection, click connect and if security is turned on you will be prompted to enter the passkey.

In the routers settings ensure that DHCP is enabled to allocate ip addresses automatically, then reboot the router if neccasary.

SOURCE: Dropping internet connection

This can be caused by a number of problems.

  • Power level fluctuations (ie surge or brownouts caused by storms)
  • Interference with other devices that use the same radio frequency (ie microwave, cordless phone, or another WIFI access point in the neighborhood)
  • Interference caused by motors' RF shielding failing. (Vacuum Cleaner, Refrigerator)
  • A bad physical connection to the Modem.
  • Badly written firmware.
  • DSL connection issues.
Ask yourself when you first noticed the problem and what has changed since then.

If you haven't already, you may want to check out D-link's web site.

4. it will show the setup page of the router. u can set the router on the specific internet setup that u have.
a. if ur isp is a cable company, normaly u need to do a mac clone on the router setup page by cloning the computer that is reg to the cable company, how to determine it. ex. the computer that is reg to the cable company is a desktop or laptop, if this computer is connected to the modem directly and u can access internet.
b. once u determined it u need to connect this computer directly to the router and do a mac clone and set ur internet settings to auto-dhcp..then save the settings and after that, unplug to the power of the modem and router, plug in 1st the power of the modem then once all lights lit, plug in the router, then once all lights lit, try to pull up a browser that ur computer is connected directly to the router.. ur cable connection shud be, cable from the modem will go to the WAN port of the router and connect ethernet cable on port1 going to the lan port of the computer..once u can access the internet, u can now access again the setup page of the router by typing at the url:192.168.1.1 and u can setup the wireless settings, u need to create a ssid or wireless name and a security..
5. If ur isp is a dsl normaly they give u a username and password to connect to the internet, ur settings on the router should be PPPoe
6. If ur isp gives u a static ip address settings, u need to set the router to isp setup.
a. how to check the isp of the isp given to u..
1. click on start
2. run
3. type cmd
4. it will show a dos prompt
5. from the dos prompt type ipconfig/all
6. it will list the ip address, subnet, default gateway, dns server
this settings should be type in to the settings on the router for static ip addressing..

if you have any querry pls feel free to get in touch.. good luck

then use lan cable to gain access to dlink router,
set up the internet conenction (i.e. your internet provider modem plugged into the dlink router also)

if it has a built in wizard then just follow the on screen instructions

you will need to define SSID (wireless network name) and passkey (password for the wireless connection)

Short connection and then no connection

This is a problem with the firmware of the router, so the best way to resolve this is to flash or update the firmware of this router then after that reset the router by pressing the reset button for about 15 seconds so the firmware update will take effect....

Connection using D-link and Netgear WPN111

You have a router (Dlink) and an adapter (netgear)
What is your OS?
Does the computer recognize the adapter?
Once the adapter is properly installed, you should be able to just run the install CD and get online.
If you still have problems, be specific.

Help connecting Cable Internet through D-Link DI-514 Router

what may be happening is the wireless pc as it was; needs the dns and ip address flushing, also the pc you connected the router to as you must have conflicting ip addreses Click start run then type ipconfig /flushdns. You should ensure that the router is set to enable DHCP to assign ip addreses and make sure your'e network cards on all pc's are set to obtain ip address automaticaly in the TCP/IP properties. Restart the pcs and type 192.168.0.1 in your web browser and get into your router setings and check in the DHCP section that all pc's have been given an ip address. If all fails you may need to reset the router
