Why can't my computer detect my sony 512mb memory stick pro duo? I have a windows xp computer and whenever I plug it in, my computer doesn't detect it. The first ever time I plugged it in, it worked fine but now it doesn't. I've checked my computer and the computer manager and it's not there.

SOURCE: format error

Format memory stick, if no data on it.
If there is data on memory stick, copy it on PC using any good card reader.

SOURCE: Sony CX-12 Camcorder gives message when memory stick inserted

Hi!
This is a feature and not a defect of the CX-12 that reminds the user that the memory stick inserted might not be able to record the data from the camera effectively. HD video requires a memory stick with a relatively fast data read/write speed, and the CX-12 recommends not using any other stick that is not Mark 2.
Fortunately, though, as you have found out, it does not affect the camera's ability to record in non-Mark 2 sticks.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: How can i fix my memory stick pro duo if the computer does not detect it?

Hi Guy's!
Don't brick/bin it It is probably fine Your P.c. can possibly only read a Max of 2Gb so buy yourselves an external card reader that can read up to 8Gb or more and your back on the case.
There you Go FixYa'd

    • 1 Visit the Sony Support site (see Resources) and download the Sony memory card software. You will need to specify your operating system. Save the file to your desktop.
    • 2 Double-click the downloaded file to launch the installer.
    • 3 Follow the onscreen instructions to install the Sony memory card software. Restart the computer after completion. Once the computer starts back up, it will recognize the Memory Stick Pro Duo when inserted into the computer's memory card reader. My memory stick Pro is not detected by my laptop, under My computer i dont find the memory stick pro at all... please help

Check to see that the memory stick is installed correctly. If it IS, and you are using Windows XP or Vista, then look under Administrative Services\Tools under the Start menu and select Computer Management. Make sure that the PlugnPlay service has been set up under automatic and that it has been started. The screen will show you a large selection of services and how they are programmed to start. Your computer will read your stick after the correct service, PlugnPlay, has been started. Please comment if this solves your problem. Thanks,

My 4gb mem. sick pro duo wont work in any of my sony devices anymore, whenever i put it in it says something like no disk is inserted and idk how to fix it

The memory stick is probably dead. The most common cause for this is ESD (Electro Static Discharge) to test, use a USB card reader to look at it on your computer. if the computer sees it, try formatting the card.

I inserted a PRO Duo card in a PRO reader (no DUO) and now the camera won't recognize it

It's possible the memory card just needs to be formatted again. Formatting will clear off all data on the card however.

In order to format the card you will need the proper adapter to connect it to a pc. Once it is detected by the pc you can go to the drive in "My Computer" in XP (or "Computer" in Vista), right-click, and select "Format". This is all assuming that you have it connected to a Windows pc.
