Either the belt has slipped off or broken, or the motor start/run capacitor has failed.
Place the dryer on its face, with cushioning. Take off the back panel and look around inside. You will see the drive belt which is long and thin and should wrap around the drum.
If the belt is broken, replace it. If it looks OK, find the motor start capacitor, which looks like this. A failed capacitor will have a split or bulging case, or a displaced end cap. They are widely available on eBay or from appliance parts shops. Get one the same voltage and capacitance rating, eg 240 VAC and 8 uF or whatever.
Make sure the replacement belt was the right one/size. Make sure the self propelled is on at the handle. If you replaced the flat belt and it still pushes hard the most common problem is a broken power drive cable or actuator arm. Put the handle down and move the power drive handle forward and backward. If it moves freely watch by the headlight for the cable to move the actuator at the base. If the cable is in tact it should move the actuator. If it is broken the actuator will not move. If the actuator is broken the piece of plastic holding the cable will let the cable slide or it may be broken off completely. Replace whichever is broken. If the cable system is ok and the belt is correct you may have a bad powerdrive assembly. I will include links to correct replacement parts.
Anyone has a broken belt sander 54-7240-8 within Canada? I could use a particular part from it to fix mine. If you do, email me at [email protected] Thanks.
as long as the water pump, alternator, are working properly. but if it has just one serpintine belt that drives all things it must be replaced. before running. if only the ac belt, it is ok to drive if it has its own belt that is broken.
take the broken belt to your nearest small enging repair shop and tell them you need a belt thats the same size as the one you will hand him.. if he sells belts he'll have the one you need... good luck
It's quite difficult to get a belt replacement. When I need one, I go to the flea market or Good will stores to buy a broken printer with a belt in good condition. I usually pay 5 to 10 USD for a printer that I'm going to use for spare parts. Sometimes I also get a working cartridge worth of $15 USD with the printer.
You can get a FRESH belt kit from here. Cost you $10 plus some post. There is a new pinch roller listed against this old girl also could be worth replacing at the same time when you service the deck.
THE DRAVE is DAMAGED
the carriage unit (tray) is braoken, you can open it up and use plastic weld to fix the broken off part or you can change the tray or buy a new one :)
