Bios date is not being saved

I have an P III 1 GHz PC with 256 MB RAM with XP installed. Mother board MERCURY 82810E chipset
The problem is that every time i reboot the PC, the BIOS date is changed to its default date. I have changed the battery several times obviously with same serial number. It is observed that the day when i am changing the bios battery, the date/time is being save for that day or maximum for the next day, then again it is changed to default date and the at the time of booting it is being halted saying to change the date/time or to set default settings. Already i have tried with 4 bios battery. Otherwise everything works fine...How splve the problem...pls suggest....with thanks

It has to be the battery contacts, the motherboard is loosing contact with the battery which is why it keeps resetting itself

UpGrade

you could only upgrade the processor and RAM in this condition i.e.

you can only change your an upgraded p-III processor like 1.0 GHz, 1.1 GHz or 1.3GHz and
upgrade the RAM by changing to 256 in each slot.

that is all what u can do with ur pc

Usb external drive not getting detected

i dont think usb version2.0 was popular when pentium 3 was around, get a BIOS uprade for your board if you can,
failing that a more up to date board and chip, with windows xp will sort this problem out and it will run so much faster as well
