Question about Canon PowerShot SD500 / IXUS 700 Digital Camera

My camera says my memory card is locked but the button on the side is not locked how do i retrieve my pictures i have a canon powershot a480

Issue: [Memory card locked] message appears on the screen.
Solution: Change the memory card lock switch to the normal setting

The SD card has a lock switch to prevent existing data from being erased. To record images or movies this switch must be in the normal (non lock) position. Different brands of SD memory cards may identify this switch differently. Regardless the procedure should be the same. Please remove the card from the camera and ensure that the switch is not in the locked position. My camera says my memory card is locked but the - sdcardlocked.jpg

You should be able to retrieve photos, but not writing or erasing if the switch is switched to write protect.

If it's not functioning correctly, the camera may need service at Canonusa.com.

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Switch off your phone.
1. Remove your memory card.
2.check your memory card. look for the lock button in your memory. mostly at right side memory card.
3.change it position. if it at upside position, change it to down position
4. Insert back to camera, and test it.

Canon powershot A480 gives error card locked

Hello! You need to take out the memory card of the camera. there is a small switch on the memory card's side 'locked- unlocked' Switch it to 'unlocked'.

Turn on the camera. "Memory Card Error" displays.

You'd better change a new memory card that doesn't have a problem to check whether it is matter of Canon PowerShot A480,or use another well camera to check if it is error of your memory card.

If it's a brand new card, it needs to be formatted with the camera. If it's been used before, the files may have been corrupted when plugged into your (or another) computer.
