My camera is missing two screws on the side, and I need to know where I might go to get it fixed.

There is a hidden screw just that looks like a hole beside the screw that hold the needle... loosen it with # 8 allen key (pretty small) then you put the curved wire back in its hole, then you can put it back on the arm, then screw back the allen screw as tight as you can, this should do the trick worked for me ... I was tring for days to fix it back on but wouldnt go in...this invisible screw was to tight... Hope it helped !

Wow, you are a brave person to be attempting to dismantle a camera like this without the knowledge of camera repair AND expect it to work when you put it back together. My honest suggestion is to take all those screws and the camera to a competent camera repair person and have them fix it. This most probably isn't the answer you were looking for and you may be upset but if you want the thing to work again have a service person do the job.

I had the same problem and found nothing online to fix it so based on what little I could find and some common sense I got it done fairly easily. Here's what I did...if you need more detail on any step either re-read it to see if you missed something or let me know 'cause maybe I missed something.

Standard warning - you are dealing with small screws, small parts and things that might break. If you damage your camera trying this repair - please don't blame me! <G>

1) remove batteries and memory card
2) carefully remove screws around the outside.
There are: 3 on the bottom, 1 under the plastic usb cover on the left side, 3 on the right side. Once those are out, remove the clip that holds the wrist strap and you'll find 1 more on the top of the camera under the wrist strap clip.
3) starting at the bottom of the camera, gently separate the back cover from the camera body. YOU DON'T NEED TO TOTALLY REMOVE THE COVER!
4) (note the small spring on the battery hatch - when you complete the next step that spring will come out so look at where it is, which way it is and don't lose it!) While holding the cover and camera body apart slightly, use a pair of fine needlenose pliers or possibly tweezers & slide the pin that holds the hatch in place toward the back of the camera until the spring and door come off. You don't need to totally remove the pin.
5) take your new door assembly and put it in place. the fun part is the little spring - the shorter end of it has to go through a small hole at the back of the hinge area, the longer end puts pressure against the hatch. Once the spring is in place, hold it there and slide the pin back into place (I found that just allowing the cover and body to come back together moved it into place).
6) try the hatch to make sure it opens/closes freely and latches
7) put the screws back in place - note that one of them is shorter than all the others - that one goes on the top of the camera under the wrist strap clip

I just fixed the same problem on my Z712 IS. I used an eye-glass repair kit because it has the correct size screwdriver to remove and replace the camera screws. I did not know which screws to remove so I just removed every screw I could find. Be aware there are two screws under the side panel that says "7.1 mega pixels". I was able to replace the rubber piece and put the camera back together. It turned out to be easier to fix than I thought it would be. Good luck.

It is very easy to fix. Just Be Very Careful when doing the following Repair.

You will need the Following a Size 0 Screw Driver, and a Small Eye Glass Flat Head Screw driver.

1. remove the 4 Screws holding the side panels. (Make sure you do not mix these screws with the ones on step 2) as these screws are shorter.
2. Remove the 6 Screws on the bottom of the camera
3. Now carefully pull apart from the bottom up. You will see 2 more screws on the left side but do not remove them.
4. Seperate the Front faceplate carefully around the Lens assembly.
5. while keeping the Camera with the lens Facing Strate Up, remove the Two Screws on the right side of the Lens, but keep caution not to move the camera while the screws are out of place.
6. remove the Cover to the Lens Gears.
7. Now this is very important!!!!, Take the Small Eyeglass Flat head Screw Driver and Pry the Gear To the Left, not the one by the motor. you do not have to take the gear off, however just enough to allow you to Move the Lens Assembly manualy.
8. Turn the Lower half of the Lens assembly carefully until the Lens is compleatly In and lens protector flaps Shut.
9. Put the Gear back on.
10. put the Gear Cover back on and Screw the Two screws back in. Make sure they are Firmly tightened
11. Put the Front Face Plate back on by putting on the top first, then closeing the bottom.
12. make sure the side pannel with the Wrist Strap is in Correctly before screwing it in.
13. Place the Side Pannels back on and Screw them in.
14. Screw the 6 Bottom Screws back in.

Now put the Battery Back in and test it out. This should fix the error you were having. i just perfomed this on my camera 15 min before i Wrote these instructions it worked! Step 15 get back to taking great shots!

Same issue here although there has not yet been any effect on function. I do quite a bit of underwater photography and the images have remained very good without the screws.

The parts people at Pentax Imaging in Golden Co were very friendly in offering a free set of screws when I called.

Try taking a picture without the flash. Go to a mode other than Auto (try Portrait), and turn off the flash. If the camera takes a picture, then the flash itself is not working properly.

First thing to check is the safety feature that turns the flash off if the case is opened. Look on the bottom of the camera, and make sure that the center two screws are in place. If you're missing one of the center screws, then that's your problem. Replace the missing screw with either of the other two bottom screws.

If the screws are in place, again try a new set of batteries. Sometimes you can get a bad set of batteries right out of the package. If new batteries don't fix it, then the flash itself probably needs replaced. This is difficult, requires some soldering, and goes beyond what I can describe here.

One note on this fix. There are four screws that need to be tightened on the lens. With the cover off and the lens pointing straight forward, there are three small screws visible. After tightening them, rotate the lens upward to expose the fourth screww. After that one is tightened, you can then replace the cover and six cover screws.

I drop my camera not even that hard and now it said the lens error message.. Does anyone know how fix this? I don't want buy a new camera.. I love this camera it's a hp m 257
