Question about Electric Mobility Power Electric Scooter Power Wheel Chair Safety Flag
I need to replace the battery charger on my Rascal 600Fmobility scooter. The original charger has 3 wires coming out, a red "+", a black "-" and a white"(gound maybe?)", at least I assume that is what they are, since the charger is dead, I have no way of testing to know for sure. I do not know what the white wire does. The only 24v chargers I can find only have 2 wires a"+"and a "-", I can see that all 3 wires from the original battery charger run through the digital controller. I do not want to ruin the controller by not having the 3rd wire or hooking up wrong. I bought a new charger because the drawing on the lable showed a 3 prong plug with the 3rd pin as a ground. But when I took the plug apart there was only 2 wires and the 3rd pin was not hooked to anything. Information about where to get the schematics for the scooter or even the original battery charger or how to adapt a 2 wire 24v charger will be appreciated. This is the only mobility scooter I have ever seen that has so little info available.
Hi. Most chargers with only two wires, have a small bridge wire from the
black ( negative ) wire to the middle terminal of the connector. This disables the controller while the machine is charging. The charger will still work without this bridge wire, but the scooter will still operate normally.
There are a few different chargers around that have an internal relay that disables the scooter, but these chargers are normally "on-board" chargers.
Good luck. Neil.

A separate, small power supply at 24v, 24v relay and crimper with plugs would be needed to create a "safety switch." When the charger is plugged in, the controller would be disabled since the relay would "connect" that "mysterious" white wire to -24v output on the new charger.
It's actually a great safety feature, prevents the driver from speeding off while the wheelchair is still plugged in and recharging. Prevents accidents, safety first.
