How do I hook up an HP v40 to my PC and a cable modem so that my FAX works?

You probably need to hook up to a landline telephone line, too. Or, you can use an "e-fax" service that lets you send faxes via internet. Basically, they would send your fax as middleman to the recipient. Windows Vista except Business version) does not have inherent fax support like Windows XP and Windows 7 Professional. And programs such as WinFax did not upgrade to Vista and 7. But, your fax modem should have come with some faxing software.

You put in modem card and then run telephone line to back. You can usually run a line to a telephone from the 2nd connection on the back with the telephone symbol below it.

Hope this helps you a litle.

HP 6310 Cannot send or receive faxes message at startup. Tried another phone line with same result.

This is a result of a fax modem fialure, Common in Hp's what happends is the all in one was plugged into a nakid phone line without a surge surpressor or what not and basically got zapped, other causes could be the modem just not functioning.

Point in case your going to need to have this repaired there is NO reset albeit Magic wand that a tech shakes at it to make it work.

Let me know your comments if you wish, please do not forget to rate. Thanks

HP USB Modem does not break dial tone

If the information connected to your post is all correct (56k V90 usb), and you are using one line for both the internet and the fax, you should hang up from the internet before you try to dial out the fax.

You have not indicated your PC model, so I don't know what operating system you are using. For XP and newer versions, you have to set up and configure the fax using the wizard or configuration software. If you have not done that yet, you need to.

In xp, go to start, Programs , Accessories , Communication , Fax , and then click Fax Console.

You said your computer is new. Win 7 and Vista are much the same:

1.Click the Start button , click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

2.At the bottom of the left pane, click Fax, and then click New Fax on the toolbar to launch the Fax Setup wizard.

3.Click Connect to a fax modem and follow the instructions.

You also need to make sure that your fax/modem is correctly listed in the control panel. In XP, start, control panel, printers and devices. If you do not have a fax printer listed, you need to "install a local fax printer."

The installation wizard should work in both OS without much trouble. If you do have difficulty, Microsoft and adobe both have "virtual printers" you can use. Look in Microsoft office or online.

Also check control panel of 7 to make sure that your modem and fax are listed correctly. Thanks for using Fixya.

My Dell A810 won't scan. Prints ok, copies ok but won't scan. Have Vista home Premium and a new Dell Inspiron. have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer twice but still won't scan.

Can't remember, but I believe you should have a fault programme which can access to run a self check?

All in one means able to send a "Fax".

If I'm right you have two settings for faxing, either entering doc in to tray or placing on scanner to be copied then faxed.
If so and you are able to fax to anoth er fax number see if you can send fax via your scanner. I'm am trying to find out if your scanner then starts up, strode lights up and copies, least you know important bits are working.

If it does light up, chances are present prog is not vista compat. Go to www.hp.com enter your printer details search it will come up with latest updates and full progs, look for the vista prog. Good Luck.

I have attached the HP 4255 officejet with my computer and want to send the file directly from my computer via fax. how i can send directly without geting print . [email protected]

Well, you'll need a modem to send a fax. Either that, or an online faxing service. Your printer / scanner is only intended to either print files, or scan hard copies into files that can then be printed (or faxed). The printer itself does not fax.

Might I suggest the following online fax service, free of charge:

There are plenty of others.

My fax isn't working, it rings but won't connect.

plug in a regular phone and make sure you are getting a dial tone. If you still are getting a dial tone it should work fine. Replacing a phone cord should not change anything as long as you lugged it into the same plugs and it worked before setup like that. Hope this helps
